For 30 mill....I could care less if Lebron is there...

What's the worst that could happen? If they lose...it'll be expected anyway....so they'd fire him at some point and he'd collect all his money

It's a win win situation...anyway you look at it

Michigan State's Tom Izzo might not decide until Monday on whether to coach Cleveland Cavaliers

At least several players left this meeting believing Izzo was going to accept the Cavs' offer, a source told The Plain Dealer. Izzo told people Friday that he would come to a decision soon but that it wouldn't be Saturday, according to sources. There is a general feeling among Michigan State officials that Izzo will either accept the Cavs job or finally turn it down by Monday.

Tom Izzo will go to Cleveland for the money, and get flamed out with a LBJ-less team.

The longer Izzo takes to decide the less likely it seems Lebron endorsed his hiring

If you are LBJ, why the hell would you hitch your wagon to an unproven college coach like Tom Izzo?

I can see the argument being made if the name is Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich. But, Tom Izzo??? Come on.

There is no way Izzo would take this long if he knew Lebron was coming back for sure. This is a good sign......

I have no doubt that Izzo doesn't know whether LBJ is coming back. That's why Cleveland offered him so much money, as an inducement to take their job without knowing about Lebron. The thinking has to be that if Izzo does accept, Lebron might be more willing to stay. As I've written already, high high high-stakes poker.

Agree.... It is also obvious that LBJ is not opposed to hiring Izzo. By not sending negative signals, the Queen is making it known that an Izzo hire will not prevent him from re-signing. That's more important.

The Queen did not send any negative messages on Thibo. The coaches are irrelevant to him. He knows he will be the one in charge anyway wherever he goes.

If there's any truth to the rumors that LBJ would prefer a coach with playing experience, then you almost have to hope Izzo gets the job over Scott. Many people kind of dismiss it, but if it's true and the Cavs hire Izzo, CLE/CHI/NY are pretty much on equal footing as far as that goes.

His arrival back from Cleveland. You be the judge.

"I did what I had to do". Does that mean make the trip in general or take the job?

You would have to think that at that point he's talking about doing his due diligence and making the trip.

So the decision might not come until Monday:

It's been mentioned here already, but I want to reiterate:
How can Adrian Wojnarowski retain any semblance of self-respect if he gives Izzo's equivocation and delays a free pass after savaging Tom Thibodeau's not-dissimilar procedure? :dontknow:

He was never really a head coach in the NBA, he was just an assistant, who knows how good he will run the offense. He is not Phil Jackson or Greg Popovich. Tom Thibodeau??? Come on. You see the logic?

Tom Izzo is one of the best college coaches, he can hire assistants like Frank, Snow, keep some of Mike Brown's assistants to make the transition easier. Tom Izzo has proven himself at the college level, its time for him to do it at the professional level.

League confidants and associates are imploring Jeff Bower: Cut Thibodeau loose and hire Monty Williams. This is beyond an embarrassment.

Says coaching friend of Boston assistant Tom Thibodeau, "This is typical Thib. He can't make a decision about anything." Doesn't bode well.

so don't be afraid, to let them show....

It is quite odd seeing as at least in the case of Thibbaaaa!!!! He was actually in the middle of helping to prepare his team for the NBA finals. Whereas Izzo, has all this apparent free time on his hands.

If Izzo turns #Cavs down, don't assume Byron Scott becomes No. 1 choice according to sources. Scott likely to wait for Lakers decision.
http://twitter.com/PDcavsinsider

Sources say #Cavs have talked to fmr Hawks coach Mike Woodson this week. Also Cavs have interest in talking to LAL asst. Brian Shaw.

FWIW: From all I'm hearing, I have doubts Izzo has an offer from Cle, much less a 5-year $30 million one. I'm sure Chi never made an offer.

Bucher's next tweet...

Would also dispute any job other than Chi is better than Cle. An owner w/$+playoff squad vs. lots of unknowns elsewhere. Assuming LBJ stays.

And yet another sign the paxson squabble was a big nothing. Like to see this regardless of author...

WTF? How could Bucher doubt that Izzo has an offer from Cleveland? Why else would Izzo have made the big visit to Cleveland and called a team meeting, after which his players expressed belief that he would leave MSU? I don't understand Bucher's claim here at all.

Cavs talking to Brian Shaw and Scott. Both former players, and Shaw could run the triangle. They are basically chasing to cover every rumor that comes out about what LeBron desires in a coach.

Return to Chicago Bulls
