Will the Jays get walked all over like a door mat?

TOR Shaun Marcum, RHP (5-3, 3.38) @ SD Jon Garland, RHP (6-4, 2.81)
Blue Jays: Marcum allowed a season-high seven runs in his last outing, a 10-1 loss to the Rays on Wednesday in which he gave up 10 hits and one walk over four innings. It was only the fourth time the 28-year-old right-hander has allowed seven runs or more in a start and the first since Sept. 11, 2007, when he gave up eight runs to the Yankees. Marcum managed only 68 pitches over his appearance and is looking to get back on track after suffering his second straight loss. Marcum had won four straight games before losing two in a row to the Rays and had eclipsed the 100-pitch plateau in 10 starts before Wednesday's loss. He has never faced the Padres in his three-year career.
Padres: Garland rebounded from his worst outing of the season, when the Phillies tagged him for six runs, against the Mets but still took the loss as he was outdueled by Jonathon Niese. The six-inning, three-run outing at Citi Field was a good sign for Garland, who has been mediocre away from spacious PETCO Park. His ERA is an amazing 1.15 at home, but goes up to 4.39 on the road. The numbers suggest Garland has been somewhat lucky at home and somewhat unlucky on the road as opponents' batting average on balls in play (BABIP) is .229 and .321, respectively. He's pitching on three days' rest.

TOR Brett Cecil, LHP (7-2, 3.22) @ SD Mat Latos, RHP (6-4, 3.24)
Blue Jays: Cecil continues to cruise for the Blue Jays. The lefty has won each of his past five starts, making him the first southpaw to do so for the Jays since Gustavo Chacin in 2005. In his last five outings, Cecil has fashioned a 1.49 ERA over 36 1/3 innings, lowering his opponents' batting average to an American League-leading .206 in the process. On Thursday at Tampa Bay, Cecil picked up a win after allowing one run on three hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Padres: The rookie right-hander has been on fire in his last eight starts for the Padres, including a six-inning, two-run performance against the Mets his last time out. Latos hasn't allowed more than three runs in a game over that stretch and only failed to complete six innings one time while posting a 2.08 ERA. The 6-foot-6 hurler has fanned 51 batters in 52 innings over that stretch as well. On the season, he has been equally effective against righties (.198 batting average) and lefties (.200). His ERA has been slightly higher on the road, but Latos has picked up a win in four of his last five starts away from PETCO Park.

TOR Ricky Romero, LHP (5-3, 3.29) @ SD Kevin Correia, RHP (5-4, 4.98)
Blue Jays: Romero pitched in less-than-ideal circumstances his last time out. One Friday at Colorado, the left-hander was forced to work in a heavy rain and yielded four runs on seven hits over five innings (the game was called after just six frames). Romero struck out five and walked one in the 74-pitch loss. Since giving up seven runs in an outing on the road against the Angels on May 25, though, Romero has posted a 2.86 ERA over three appearances.
Padres: San Diego starter Kevin Correia didn't factor in the victory over the Mariners in his most recent start, though he kept the Padres in the game, as he allowed three runs over six innings with no walks and five strikeouts. He had a 2-0 lead entering the fifth inning but allowed a double to Eliezer Alfonzo and later an RBI triple off the center-field wall to Franklin Gutierrez. Correia hit Chone Figgins on an 0-2 pitch that preceded the Gutierrez triple. "My stuff was really good, but I made a few bad decisions," Correia said. "I was in control of both of those at-bats, but I just threw dumb pitches."
