Arenas Looking Foward To Fresh Start With Wall

I'm talking about guys who don't "know how to play", if that makes sense. It's the same reason why NFL teams usually don't play their best players against lower tier competition in preseason. Guys who aren't as talented athletically are more likely to do something that will get somebody hurt.

I get what you're saying, but lets not blow this outta proportion. These kids aren't on the court swinging bats yelling "Yipee Ki Yai, I'm a get me a roster spot!"

I'm incredibly excited about these two. I can't wait for the season to get here.

I wasn't sure about going to the Vegas Summer League this year, but if I can sit through Nick Young & Dominic McGuire, there's no way I can miss watching John Wall in person.

I agree, Summer League is going to be amazing. I'm curious to see what type of chemistry Wall and McGee develop

John Wall is like...6'4 and has a great wingspan right? Arenas is like 6'3 maybe a lil less...Why not just have Wall guard the more threatening guard each night, whether it be the opposing team's sg or pg. Maybe thats asking too much from a rookie, but I don't know, it made sense in my head

That is my thoughts on how to handle the defensive assignments. That lets Arenas expend more energy on the offensive side. Initially Arenas will probably handle more of the scoring. However hopefully as Wall's shooting improves, the attack may become more balanced.

The one issue with that plan is that John Wall is 196 pounds. For comparison, Nick Young was 206 when he was drafted, and he was painfully skinny at the time. I'd guess Young is probably about 215 right now and he is still getting pushed around.

I think Wall will ultimately be able to guard PG's or SG's as needed, but I hesistate to give him that assignment as a rookie.

I don't think that being skinny is a major issue at SG. Even Mike Miller is only listed at 215. I think Tyreke Evans, JR Smith and Jason Richardson would be tough for an Arenas/Wall backcourt to handle defensively. QRich has the size to be a problem, but he mostly scores from 3. I'm not saying it won't work. I'm just saying that it might not work. Would you rather have Arenas' superior strength and experience to defend the SG position? Or would you rather have Wall's superior length and quickness? I don't know the answer.

For now, I think I'd lean toward having Arenas guard SG's. If nothing else, I'd prefer that Wall focus on being a pure PG because that's the position he'll play in Washington for the next 12 years. That said, it's nice to know that Wall has legit SG-caliber length. After a year or two of strength training, he'll probably be able to guard either position equally as well.

John Wall could probably get to 220 in a few years since he's only 19 years old right now., much like Arenas was able to put on weight. Nick Young in comparison was 22 during his rookie season, so it's been harder for him to put on more weight. Arenas was 19-20 during his rookie season.
