2010 Summer League Thread

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Thu Jun 10, 2010 12:43 pm

They'll play games, not open to the public, in Orlando's practice facility in early July. The sked:

July 5: Bobcats vs. Jazz, 1 p.m.

July 6: Bobcats vs. Thunder, 3 p.m.

July 7: Bobcats vs. Celtics, 1 p.m.

July 8: Bobcats vs. 76ers, 7 p.m.

July 9: Bobcats vs. Magic, 2 p.m.

No specific television info yet, but it's a safe guess NBA TV will televise most, if not all.

I'll be at most of these games and the practices preceding them. They'll assemble in Orlando for those practices, which will include Gerald Henderson, Derrick Brown and Alexis Ajinca. Summer league should be a bit more important that usual, since they have roster spots to fill and little money to spend.

However one trade (moving Nazr Mohammed's expiring contract for payroll relief, for instance), could change that strategy.

Alpha dog and Lexy's personality doesn't sound like a probable pairing to me.

I believe Henderson is gonna lead the team in scoring.

Didn't Derrick lead the Jazz team in scoring last year in limited minutes? I'd expect him to come out with fire trying to earn that playing time

I think that Lexy is going to turn it on and will lead the team in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots.

Suck it bitches.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that neither Ajinca, Brown, or Henderson lead the team in scoring. My money is on Darius Miles if he gets a Summer League invite.

Anderson invitation: Brown said former Memphis guard Antonio Anderson will be part of the Bobcats’ summer-league team next month in Orlando.

Anderson played well for the Bobcats in the 2009 preseason before ultimately being cut. A 6-6 guard and a strong defender, Anderson played briefly last season for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Brown said they’ll probably bring three or more veteran free agents to Orlando from the 3-day mini-camp held last week. He added that acquiring a draft pick could affect which free agents accept invitations.

“Say we draft somebody at the position (a veteran) plays. All of a sudden his agent is going to say, ‘I’d rather have him play someplace else,’ ’’ Brown described.

I guess we could make this thread sticky for while, once draft is over, just my two cents.

Looks like Torrance will get an invite. Hope so. But Sherron Collins has already, so that is good.

Didn't Jamar Smith play at Illinois at one time?

I've also read that the Bobcats extended a Summer League invite to Sherron Collins. Sherron seems like the prototypical LB point guard.

Well, our camps should be attractvie for point guards. With Felton probably levaing we are going to have a yougn PG after ugly sophomore slump, with some defensive limitations cause to his height. Although that couldbe addressed other ways, currently there is a open spot for PG backup preferably with good defense and size (to address DJ's weakness). Backup position is the msot what undrafted plaayers can dream about, there is (at least) one guard spot left and as a cherry on a cake our camps come with an opportunity to be coached by Larry Brown. Not to mention MJ's dog and ponny shows.

Hopefully we can get a diamond in a rough from those favourable settings. (i.e. offseason is long , we had no pick, we have to find something to hope for).

Interesting. I didn't mind Marquis Gilstrap (watched him a lot while watching Brackins) although he was a little bit of a ball hog at times.

I don't really see him sticking if the front office is as high on UPS as they claimed to be last summer.

I guess it's good they are bringing in Collins, but I would MUCH rather bring in Torrance - even though scoring was an issue last season and that plays to Collins strength more, I just like the idea of having a taller, ambidextrous passing point.

Plus I think Torrance still has upside. Not so sure that would be the case with Collins.

Real good athlete. Good rebounder. Similar to Wallace. Don't see him making team though.

Torrance said Friday night that he has received offers from "five or six" teams. He acknowledged that the Miami Heat is one but declined to identify the others.

Not so good.............
