Jazz/Sixers

Post#1 » by Dedicated_76ers_fan » Wed Jun 16, 2010 1:37 pm

Didn't see a trade thread really. So I wanted to purpose this:

Sixers send:
F Iguodala
F/C Speights
C Smith

Jazz send:
F AK47
9th pick in the 2010 draft.

The way I see it, if Speights meets his potential, he's just as good, if not better then anyone at that 9th pick. I also think adding a starter of Iguodala's caliber is really important for you as well. Smith can be a decent servicable 3rd big for you.

Thoughts, suggestions on improvement?

But anyways, other than Speights supposedly being dumb as a stone I do see some interest in this trade.

However with the trades the Jazz have apparently turned down for AK (Marion, good version of Josh Howard, Vince Carter, numerous others) it seems that the Jazz believe Kirilenko is an important part of the team's future. If the Jazz hold onto AK for this season and decide to bite the bullet and pay his massive contract for one more year, it is very likely that he resigns with the Jazz for a very reasonable price in which his value to the franchise will escalate very quickly.

Basically, with out your pick, I don't see think the Jazz would feel like they were getting enough out of the deal, and there is no way Philly would make a trade that included both AI and the #3.

Very good value being offered here. My only question is whether or not Iggy is well-suited @ the 3. The Jazz have both Miles and Matthews who are both more accurate from 2 pt and 3 pt range. Still, I could see a nice 3 man rotation of Iggy, CJ and Wes.

Deron / Price
Matthews / Miles
Iggy / Miles
Boozer? / Millsap / Speights
Memo / Fes / Smith

If Boozer resigns, that's a very dangerous team.

I prefer the 2nd pick obvisiously over Speights but if you want Iggy then sixers barely do this one but if take brand instead of Iggy then might get sixers #1 pick. Pick your poison:

Iggy, Speights, Smith for Ak-47 & 9th pick

or

Brand, Smith, 2 pick (Turner) for Ak-47 & 9th pick

tough choice but both are better for the Jazz then playing it safe and picking someone like Babbit. Losing Boozer and bring AK-47 off the bench while starting Fess. Playing it safe wins about half their games but miss the playoffs next year. In either case, the jazz make a huge financial investment in Brand (not good) or Iggy (im ok with)
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

The problem with Iggy and his overall value is that his value as a player is counterweighted by his value as a contract. The fact that he is being paid like a franchise player, but is more of a 3rd option and great glue guy, is what makes him less appealing than his skill level would suggest. Philly was ready to offload him last year for an expiring and a pittance, something like a mid/late 1st rounder. To me, giving up the 9th AND cap relief for Iggy is too much, and that's before you consider the value that AK brings as a player. Too much to give, imo.

I would love Iggy, though.

I like this trade, I would just question if the sixers would be willing to give up Speights. It seems like they would be better off getting rid of Brand and his contract and moving Speights into the starting lineup.
