In the case of AK47, you were massively overpaying because of how overpaid AK is and the fact that you were saving Utah more than $20 million after the luxury tax.
With so many teams up against it with the luxury tax and revenues down league-wide I have no question these types of deals along with the Harpring/Maynor type trades will be available in late-July, early-August when the dust has settled. While minor in nature, there were like 10 luxury-tax related deals made during the season (2 we were involved in). Being able to spend the money to reach the salary cap floor is not a concern for me in the least.
1) I gave plenty of reasons as to why. The latest one shows that you SHOULD be concerned about reaching the cap floor. You dont know what kind of deals the Nets will hand out to role players to fill the roster, there hasn't even been any hint of a name that we could possible target. Why do you automatically assume we'll find quality guys and not overpay them? I'm willing to bet you will find at least 1 grossly overpaid player on every team in the league. The Nets are gonna have one whether you like it or not. Now what if someone like Krover (who has been mentioned by fans) wants something crazy like 4 years $30mil? Is it better to bring back the role players from last year? Hayes for 3 years at $10mil? I'd would rather have that overpaid player be AK or Prince whos are gone next year.
2) How the hell would we be OVERPAYING for AK? He would cost this team no assets and no flexibility. We'd be spending money that must be spent anyway. He costs nothing.
