Petrie liked what he saw from both players and they represent potential alternatives if cousins is not on board at 5. Monroe would likely be the target if we moved down to 7 or 8 and whiteside is likely the target if we move down lower, but whiteside could also be picked ahead of Monroe, I think the 2nd work out is to help Petrie decide which alternative he likes best. Whitside was rather impressive in his workout and Monroe was as skilled as advertised but maybe has a lower upside than we would hope for in a top 10 pick.

Why is Sacramento bringing him back for a second workout?

And why is Monroe's agent letting Monroe work out against Whiteside when he originally said he wouldn't let Monroe work out against anyone but Favors or Cousins?

Any juice?

Because his agent probably learned what everyone else already knew, Monroe is not good enough to get in a workout with Favors/Cousins

^^i think you are dead on with that, and I think he's hoping to prove that Monroe is still ahead of guys like whiteside udoh and aldrich. If he does well in this work out it could go a long way to solidifying his draft stock, but if it goes poorly he sets himself up to slip down a little and find himself as part of the same group as aldrich whiteside and udoh.

There are a few reasons why:

1. Monroe and Whiteside don't think the Kings are going to be taking Cousins. Its apparent now that he will be available 5th overall. If they doesn't think they're taking Cousins, then Monroe needs to work out against another "lottery caliber" player to prove he isn't soft. Going 0-1 wasn't enough, and perhaps the Kings told the agent as much. Also, if Whiteside dominates, maybe the Kings gamble, or do a trade with a team later in the lottery that wants Cousins or Monroe (Detroit, Utah, Indiana, any team drafting 6-14).

2. The Kings invited more players and they declined, but the two who excepted are in their 5 targets. Therefore, by coming perhaps they move to 1 and 2 in some order.

3. Whiteside and Monroe couldn't get into the NJ workout and felt better going to Sac than staying at home, or going to one of the lower lottery teams working players out for the first or second time on Saturday.

Okay, this all makes sense. It's also pretty good validation for Whiteside, given that some mocks are showing him a bit lower in the first round. From what I've seen, Monroe will probably shoot a bit better out on the floor, but Whiteside will run the floor better, block a few of Monroe's shots and probably shoot over Monroe with his length. It'll be interesting to see them. Hopefully some video gets posted.

I'm wondering why the Kings aren't sold on Cousins though. Maybe he's risky for some reason? Several teams would probably love to have him.

Or maybe this workout is just part of a back-up plan in case Cousins is gone before the 5th pick.

Just because they invited Whiteside/Monroe back for a 2nd workout doesn't mean that they aren't sold on Cousins. Never a bad idea to have a plan B or C, just in case.

Not really. Cousins and Favors are where they are and keeping any "mystery" alive only benefits them. Go in a workout with Monroe and get owned and it might cost you and your agent a few mil.

I think Monroe's going to own him if it's one on one.

Okafor, Collison and #11 for Nocioni, Garcia and #5?

Would that work for both team? I think so. I like the way the Kings look afterwards:

C: Okafor, Hawes
PF: Landry, Thompson, Brockman
SF: Greene, Casspi
SG: Evans, Henry@11
PG: Collison, Beno, Randle@33

We'd still have a load of FA dollars to spend on another wing type veteran player as well.
