General breakdown:

* McGuire was was drafted strictly based on talent - it was between him and another unidentified player. AA saw him in spring training and said "no way he's going to be there at #11". Spoke with him extensively on Saturday and said McGuire is excited about getting to play pro ball.
* Sanchez they expected to be picked around #17 or 20 - surprised he was there.
* Surprised Woj lasted as well; heard him connected as high as #4 to KC and #13 to Chicago.
* Syndergaard they saw a lot and was a late comer - last 3 times they saw him he hit 96 on the gun - other teams started noticing him - athletic - best fastball command in the draft. They were afraid someone was going to beat us to the punch so they took him early.
* Thon is a first round talent. Will do everything to try and get him signed.
* They were going to pick another tough sign but someone took him just before their pick so they didn't want to make the same mistake on Thon.
* McGowan to see Dr. Andrews

Thanks. Good interview. AA seems thorough/organized/systematic.

I'm left wondering about that unidentified player the Jays "gambled on" by waiting until the late rounds and then missed out on when he was taken just before they decided to pull the trigger...

Maybe Yordy Cabrera? Went to Oakland one pick before the Jays in the second round.

No, he said "later on" after the Thon pick so he might be talking about Austin Wilson in the 12th round.

I think that was a great pick by the Cardinals. Why not take a chance in the 12th round instead of taking some guy who'll never make it to the majors. There's always the chance that on signing day Wilson and his family hear the offer and have a change of heart. They might see the multi-million $ signs circling around their heads and can't resist passing it up. That's why I'm kinda shocked he lasted that long. Some team should've taken a chance long before that.

He's not signing man.

His asking price is $3 to $4 million. We wouldn't pay that and neither would anyone else it appears like. IMO the only reason the Cardinals took him is to spook Cox a bit.

4th round pick Sam Dyson having a hell of a game in the CWS vs. Arizona State:

Gamecocks didn't even need 8 runs today, not the way Sam Dyson's throwing. Rough one for ASU fans, Gamecocks in complete command 8-0.

Dyson looks great so far -- got his good velo, with good life and command, and the curveball is sharp. Very encouraging for Gamecocks.

Tailor-made 4-6-3 DP gets S. Carolina out of it. Dyson's throwing power curve, FB 92-95 for strikes. In other words, he looks very tough
