^^^The MSU players were wrong. A number of them told Cavs insider that Izzo was taking the Cavs job, and that basically thats what Izzo communicated to them during the meeting they had with Izzo. With all due humility, I said at the time that the players couldn't have been reporting what Tom Izzo said to them accurately.

I believe Izzo was led to believe that James would support his hire 100% by Gilbert. When he wanted to make contact with LBJ and confirm it went south and Izzo decided to stay MSU.

FWIW.....Izzo was a guest on Jim Rome's radio show about 15 minutes ago. Izzo said that he obviously didn't expect LeBron to commit one way or the other, and that he wouldn't even attempt to put that pressure on him or be naive enough to think he would get an answer. Izzo then went on to say that the main thing he wanted to find out from LeBron/LeBron's camp was whether or not LeBron would be open to playing for Izzo, being that he's a college guy, different than what he's used to, etc. Izzo did say that the feedback from "LeBron's camp" was positive in that regard.
