What's the next move?

Post#1 » by Bac2Basics » Thu Jun 17, 2010 8:36 pm

Sacramento's make the first significant pre-draft move with the Dalembert trade.

With the current roster......
does the trade change who the Kings consider drafting significnatly?
What's the next goal (player/position) as far as a trade target?

Hope and pray that another team doesn't move up to get Cousins. If that happens I would be happy with Monroe though.

At this point my guess would be that the Kings dont want Cousins and will listen to offers. I think it was Sam Amick, who was on Sports 1140 a little bit ago, saying that the Kings could get some big offers if Cousins is there at 5. So, I think the Kings will play the wait and see game now with the hopes of moving their pick.

I think they could look at a few trades. First offer would be Prince/7 for Garcia/5, and then they take Greg. Another offer I could see the Kings listening to is Collison/Peja/11 for Garcia/5. At 11 the Kings could then consider taking either Hayword, Babbit, Henry, or Whiteside.

If I was was betting man I would take the second trade as something that may happen.

Dalembert isn't going to be our starting center of the future, so no, I don't see it changing a whole lot.

I think at this point, we draft Cousins at 5 if he's there (otherwise, I'd have a whole bunch of other contingency plans), and then draft a combo guard at 33. Say, Mikhail Torrance. And with Cousins, I'd consider Jason the better fit as the starting PF.

Udrih\Torrance
Evans\Garcia
Casspi\Greene
Thompson\Landry\Brockman
Cousins\Dalembert

Man, it's nice to have Noc out of that lineup.

^^
I tend to agree that Dalembert isn't likely to be a long term guy, so I don't think he affects the draft strategy significantly?

Yeah I don't think it does. If anything, I think trading Hawes only solidifies the fact that we're taking a young big.

I think the Landry/Dalembert trades make a drafting of a SG at #5 is more important since we really needed outside shooting last year. And a Noci/Hawes/Martin exits makes their outside shooting weakened severely.

What is Tyreke's weakness again? Oh yeah...

If you thought teams packed the paint this year just wait until next year. 5 in the paint at all times.

We're fine with outside shooting. Dalembert won't spread the floor a lot, but he will a little. Brock is improving. Landry and Thompson are both great from mid range.

And all of our wings are threats from 3. Donte is the only one who is inconsistent, but that should improve. Omri only got inconsistent when he hit the rookie wall last year. He projects as a very consistent 3-point threat, and Beno and Cisco already are. We're fine.

Not really, Landry and Dalembert are only here for 1 more year unless we sign em, seeing how we have most of our wing players locked up for a long time, we are drafting a big. Hopefully its Cousins, but I wouldnt cry if we took Monroe.

I would be very surprised if the Kings don't take Cousins if he is available.

Dally + 5

For

Okafor
Collison
11

Okafor is an upgrade and Collison would be a great PG for us. Plus #11 we can get another big such as whiteside.
Hornets get a big expiring to help their finances and get the #5 to get Paul a potential weapon down low.

or

keep Dally, let him expire and in 2011, Carmelo Anthony :)

If we trade Dally for Okafor, I'll be seriously pissed.
Okafor's numbers aren't significantly better, but his contract is massively larger.
If we're taking on Okafor's bloated contract, Sacramento's keeping #5.

The way I see it this trade was a continuation of our culture change. The kings in one year have gone from being a very soft team to adding tough physical guys at every position.

We added
tyreke
casspi
brockman
landry
dalembert

that my friends is a new philosophy. It seems that Petrie has bought into it and I can only assume it's great for our team.

With that being said I don't see us taking another sortie in Monroe my bet is if cousins is there he's our target. Cousins is big strong physical and tough all the things our team is trying to become.

As far as free agency goes I see us adding a reserve type spot up shooter to help spread the floor. And our 2nd round pick will be spent on a big combo guard that plays defense and shoots well from deep.

Gotta love the new line-up though...

Beno/#33
Reke/Garcia
Casspi/Greene
JT/Landry (I like Landry off the bench much more)
Dally/#5 (One of cousins, monroe, or whiteside)

Next it's time to trade Jason Thompson as a major chip in a sign and trade. Bosh or bust.
