Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
Nash and Barbosa makes a lot of sense for both teams. If Amare is walking to Miami like rumored and kerr quit because sarver is going back to tightwad mode they will look to shred salary now.
Przybilla, Miller, Rudy, Bayless and maybe picks for them.
I know for a fact that Bayless moved all his **** back to Arizona. Of course he's from there but still... Could create fun speculation.

I don't think it's much of a pipe dream.. Rumor has been out there that the Sixers would Trade the #2 for someone to take Brand off the books, it basically comes down to a LMA for Iggy trade which is a pretty fair one.

I don't think so, it's the one decent piece Indy has, they aren't moving him.

Davis is better than Miller in a Contract year or when he feels like it... which isn't often anymore... NO THANK YOU

If you were from AZ and you had to go through the cruddy spring we had here and COULD move back to AZ, wouldn't you?

I've lived in PDX all my life and with the low employment rate and crappy weather, I'm ready to move out of this sh*thole of a town.

Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
Well, lets say that Quickers is right, and that Portland is in fact engaged in discussions for an all-star.
Here is a list of all-stars. You can sort by year
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NBA_All-Stars
Names that stand out as possibilities:
Baron Davis - He probably can be had for the right price... possibly cheap. Is this a game changer though?
Steve Nash - Probably a high price, but likely only dealt if Amare bolts. Probably would be packaged in a salary dump. Again, is this something that saves KP's job?
Paul Pierce - Seems unlikely as Celtics are still playing. But, Boston probably knows the end of the ride is near, and the right deal might let them cash out and get a head start on their next effort. Pretty big get if it were to happen.
Tony Parker - Rumors are he's available, but I don't see it as a cheap price. San Antonio wants a big. Would be big deal.
Chris Paul - Maybe a little bit of an X-factor. New Orleans is at a little bit of a cross roads. Collison looks like a stud. Add in #12 + some youth and maybe you can build for something bigger? Still, one of if not the best PG in the game. Seems unlikely, but clearly would be a complete home run. Bonus points for righting a previous wrong.
Danny Granger - Portland was rumored to like him previously. Obviously SF doesn't seem like a pressing need, but he's a legit player. Job saver? Maybe.
Mo Williams - Good scoring guard. Could definitely see him playing well next to Roy. Likely can be had as he fell out of favor. Likely dirt cheap if Lebron bolts. Doesn't seem to fit into the time frame though. If you were going to target Mo, you'd probably target him during free agency.
Devin Harris - Portland almost got him once. Him and Avery have had difficulties in the past. Would right a little bit of a wrong. Would bring defense and give Portland a legit #2 option.
Jameer Nelson - Put him on here despite not really being mentioned. Seems highly unlikely. Point guards are incredibly hard to come by, and unlike the some of the other guys mentioned, there isn't another option sitting on the bench behind him, nor is there a compelling reason for his team to deal him.
Al Horford - Similar to Nelson in the fact that it doesn't really fit, but he's someone that could be possible.
David Lee - Knicks don't seem to be in a great spot to keep him, but nothing could happen until after the draft--so doesn't fit the time frame.
Gerald Wallace - Portland came close a year ago. Maybe they step up and get him.
These are just some names that seem somewhat plausible. Obviously guys such as Dirk, Lebron, Wade, Howard, Kobe etc are out there as well... and while certainly job saviors, they are incredibly unlikely to be part of anything. Going off that logic, I'd be highly tempted to remove Paul from that list and possibly Pierce and Parker. Additionally guys like Magloire or Randolph don't fit the bill for obvious reasons.

Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
How about something like this:
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=5556073
POR Out: Miller/Rudy/Bayless
POR In: Parker
We get the "star" we need, and have holes at b/u PG, but could be filled via something else. Might want the shooting of Webster in the starting lineup and then have Batum as our versatile guy we play 35 mpg spread out over the 1/2/3 irritating the other team.
Parker/Roy/Webster/Aldridge/Oden
Batum/Cunningham/Camby
(obviously we'd need to fill out the bench, but I like that rotation)
PHI Out: Iguodala/Kopono
PHI In: Miller/Rudy/Jefferson
They shed a lot of salary and make room for Evan Turner. Miller played well there and Jefferson is just a one year rental that can provide some scoring this year.
SA Out: Jefferson/Parker
SA In: Bayless/Kopono/Iguodala
They get a lot younger, Pop probably hopes Bayless can bring some of what Parker does, and Dala is a huge upgrade over the disappointment of Jefferson plus they add the shooting of Kopono.

After July 1st,LMA goes from a poisonpill to BYC. We'd be taking back 28 million in contracts. We'd have to send out a minimum of about 22. Joel is 7.5, Martell 4.8, Rudy is a little over 1. LMA counts for less than 6. That doesn't get it done.

Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
I think it must be Nash. Sarver is super-cheap. It could be
Nash+Barbosa For Pryz+Rudy+Bayless+Miller+#22+rights to Claver, trade I.D. 5556201
I tried to work a CP3 trade, but need a third team, can't see it working.
Parker could work, but I'm not sure what SA would want that we would give.
Can't think of any other players that would save KP, and might be realistic from both sides.

Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
Hey everyone, when trying to narrow out the player,
look at teams first. Which teams have a all-star type
player that is either expendable (ie. team-x has two
pg's that are both all-star type, thus would trade one),
or a team has a all-star type player that wants to leave.
I think if you narrow the teams down, then you can
figure out which players could fit "the job saving deal."

Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
Can I play?
Assume it's really two trades, one a Draft Day Deal, one later contingent on the first.
First Rudy, the #22 and "future considerations for the #3 and Courtney Lee. Future consideration via a delayed trade is LMA for NJ cap space(generating a huge TPE.)
Cousins drafted w/the #3.
After the the TPE is officially generated,Miller,Webster,Pryz-who's taken his option-rights to Cousins, cash, future First for CP# and Posey w/West betraded to Portland for TPE.
Why on earth?
Lee has been very unhappy in NJ. Trading him for a Euro Star would prob make the new owner happy. He wants to win in next 5 yrs,LMA can contribute now instead of waiting for some rookie project to perhaps develop.Still can draft a project at 22.
NO shaves some $6mil and gets under the Lux Tax,a huge financial edge for a team looking to cut costs.
They can pitch it as rebuilding around Collison and Cousins and getting significant cap room for 2011.
Portland ends up actually saving almost $500,000.
CP3,Bayless
Roy,Lee
Batum,Posey
West,Cunningham
Oden,Camby,Pendergraph
Obviously need a decent back-up big and a wing for depth, going just into Lux Tax.

Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
Ug it pains me to see the Lakers win the Finals again, but this just shows once again how you need a true second star (or really, really, really good defense which we do not have). This is why LeBron keeps exiting the playoffs early, this is why Kobe was doing nothing until Gasol came. We need that second star. Now what kind of star, I don't know? Will a Parker or an Iggy put us over? I don't know. Would a Bosh? Possibly. We have one star and our supposed second best player usually dissapears in the playoffs. Oden is not that and won't be until he can stay healthy (and even then he may not be the second best, though, his defense will be nice). Batum is all potential, Bayless is all potential, Rudy is God awful. Trying to make a trade like Pritchard is rumored to currently, is what he should have done when people like Rudy had value and Raef Lafrentz expiring contract was sought after by teams. This is IMO, one reason he is on the hot seat, you cannot get to attached to your players, you just can't. You don't win like that unless everyone pans out as they should, and everyone knows that is not a given.

So who else hasn't been speculated about? What about Carmelo? Maybe he's told Denver he doesn't plan on sticking around. I dunno, I go team by team, and see nobody new popping out.

Re: 'Short' time till the Draft
One thing you can be sure of, if the Blazers don't plan on improving substantially, they will never get past the Lakers while Roy is in his prime.
There are basically 2 possible plans. The Blazers can stay as they are and be a mediocre team and probably have a good business selling false hope to stupid fools. Or, they can take some big chances on expensive players that hopefully can still be motivated even though they are rich and still have a little ability even though they are getting old.

Baron Davis is not an option, sorry d-train. That is just as bad (actually worse) as sitting and doing nothing.

Wouldn't bringing in big name, overpaid players also be selling false help to stupid fans who think a big name star like VinceCarter(random example) are going to improve their team.

It seems like everyone would be happy with the player....just not sure everyone would be happy with what was given up since we all seem to like everyone but Rudy and Joel.

Not sure what sort of hint you might be able to give. Position of incoming player? Maybe that's too much. WC or EC team? Would Batum be outgoing?

Vince Carter does help make a team better.
The biggest thing about big contracts is the increased risk they create for the team that commits to them. There's no margin for error when you take a huge contract. If the player earning that money doesn't produce, then you are screwed. On the other hand, a player with a big contract is a player that has demonstrating the ability to produce.
The bottom-line is there are basically 2 ways to go as I said in a prior post. The Blazers FO has to decide which avenue they are going to take.

Return to Portland Trail Blazers
