BTW, isn't Mannix the same guy that wrote that article about 3 weeks ago suggesting the Nets trade the 3rd overall pick straight up for an unrestricted Amar'e in a S&T?

With Tom Thibodeau now moving on to become head coach of the Bulls, the Celtics will need to find a replacement as their defensive specialist.
Assuming Doc Rivers stays, a likely replacement will be former New Jersey head coach Lawrence Frank.

Re: Evan Turner To Nets? Dalembert traded to Kings
I'm sorry, I just googled it, it was from February 6xth. Mannix said the Nets should have traded the pick(unprotected and yet to be determined where it would land) for Amar'e at the deadline.
Fail.

Fail.

Re: Evan Turner To Nets? Dalembert traded to Kings
I think we are gonna end up with Evan Turner. The Sixers have too many wing players already and just traded away one of their starting big-men.
Devin Harris
Evan Turner
Brook Lopez
That's our foundation so far with Yi, Lee and TWill being the main support players. Hopefully we can grab a David Lee to give us a tough rebounding presence alongside Brook and also maybe a lights out shooter.
If we can't grab one of the max players, then we need to just get a few stopgaps until 2011 and try again when there might be less competition for the big free agents.

Re: Evan Turner To Nets? Dalembert traded to Kings
This web site thing for Philly...I don't put much into that. You think Stefanski tels the 20 year old doing web graphics...OK here is what we are definitely going to be doing now that we made this trade? Come on into the office so we can keep you up to date. its very important that you be in the loop.
They prepared multiple graphics and links. Who cares. It may be Turner but I just put this aside and not think....ooh they just tipped their hand.
I always look more closely at who is saying what and why. the quotes not the media's spin on it.
Listen to Collins. Listen to Stefanski. Read between the lines where possible. And see where it goes from there.
Collins is talking more about how their trade creates more opportunity for Brand and a better fit on the floor for him with the 5's they have now, and not liking the way him and Daly fit here and in other quotes. To me...that is very detailed info that says, the trade wasnt made to fill the 3. It was made because odds are we are stuck with Brand after trying to dump his ass...so might as well make the best of a former star eating up a huge part of our cap assets. They trimmed payroll and resolved a fit issue with existing personnel. If they could have dumped Brand before Daly I think they would have. So now...they continue back to the draft and say what is the best player available.
Now Iannazzone gets right to it and says they probably take Turner in this second thing I listed. And he is probably reading it right. But Stefanski is absolutey answering it coyly the way Rod does to leave it open. What I get is...they absolutely want everyone to think they are taking Turner at the second pick so if you want TURNER you need to deal with US.
It sounds like they are clear that if a deal is to be had it will be for Turner. And we are fully prepared to take him, we made a trade to maximize our existing players not to create a reason to draft the lower ranked prospects in a higher slot. So any trade offers make them here...not to the team below us...unless of course you want one of the big men.
I think they worked out the bigs and even Wes Johnson so that if they get the right offer to move to #3 or move to 4, or possibly to #5 in a another Kings deal...we know what we will be looking at.
If i had to pick the team they are speaking to most its Minny. They have cap room and trade assets that do not seem to be meshing well. They arent guarding their cap rom for a free agent runs like we are..they arent in that mix. So send out the message. You have 3 first round picks, you have the two big men. You have cap room to help us out of a contract we might not want. Make us an offer to give us reason to swap picks.
I think we are the after thought for the swap because we are going to be more greedy with our assets they might covet. And we most likely wont have a deal to offer Philly that absorbs a contract for them.
Now I would like to hear the Philly brass break down the workouts for the big men and hopefully see video like we did for the Kings. Did they see anything that blew them away? If not...then again...not going to just keep the pick and take a big. Ford says Cousins looked great in the workout. That doesnt mean he swayed them or that they even rank him higher long run thatn even Favors. So that isnt enough. I want to hear Philly guys and see their video for myself if there is one.
At this stage the only way I see us getting Turner is to ether trade up to get him, or for someone else to trade up to 2 who wants somone else other than Turner.

I always look more closely at who is saying what and why. the quotes not the media's spin on it.

Minus Dalembert, Collins likes Sixers' versatility at center

The new coach said newcomer Spencer Hawes could be used interchangeably with Marreese Speights, Jason Smith and Elton Brand.
PHILADELPHIA - Trading Samuel Dalembert for Andres Nocioni and Spencer Hawes gives the 76ers a different look.
It subtracts the team's best interior defender and shot-blocker, as well as a guy who complained about not being appreciated or involved enough in the offense, in addition to asking multiple times to be traded.
Dealing the offensively limited Dalembert should make the Sixers better when they have the ball, particularly at the center position, according to new coach Doug Collins.
"I feel like every one of our big guys is skilled offensively," said Collins after Friday's pre-draft workout. "They can all shoot. I think that's a great thing to be able to do. Now you've got four interchangeable big guys (Hawes, Marreese Speights, Jason Smith and power forward Elton Brand)."
Dalembert's departure for Sacramento could have the biggest impact on Brand.
The 6-foot-8 Brand is coming off the worst statistical season of his 11-year NBA career.
"It changes the dynamics a little bit for Elton Brand, because I was thinking I might have to play him strictly at the '5,' because I didn't think he and Sam played well together," Collins said. "Now, I feel Elton can play with Hawes and he can play with Speights. I think it gives us a chance to play a bigger lineup that I'm more comfortable with."
There was a sense from Collins and team president Ed Stefanski that perhaps the Sixers took the first reasonable offer for Dalembert to allow the Sixers and Dalembert to move on.
In addition to Dalembert's $12.2 million salary next season, Sacramento apparently paid $750,000 of Dalembert's $1.8 million (15 percent) trade kicker. The Kings didn't have to shell out the remainder because it would've prevented the trade from working under the league's salary-cap rules and Dalembert agreed to accept the smaller amount.
"The No. 1 (trade obstacle) we went through was the trade kicker," Stefanski said. "No. 2, we got a package we felt comfortable with from a basketball standpoint."
Collins called Nocioni "one of the toughest guys in the league, which will really help us." The Sixers believe Nocioni can play both forward spots.
As for Hawes, the 7-footer is a solid outside shooter, though his defense and toughness must improve. He's 31.4 percent in his career from the 3-point line, which is better than Andre Iguodala's 31 percent last season.
"He's got a great chance here," Collins said. "We feel like he fits in with what we're trying to do. And he's young (22). He can shoot the ball. We feel like we can throw the ball in the post and cut off of him. He's a very good passer."
Big men visit
Big men Derrick Favors (Georgia Tech) and DeMarcus Cousins (Kentucky) worked out for the Sixers on Friday.
Favors is expected to go third to the Nets, with Cousins not before fifth. Ohio State shooting guard Evan Turner, who visited Thursday, appears likely to be the Sixers' pick at No. 2.
Syracuse small forward Wesley Johnson is set to work out Saturday. Johnson is projected to be the Timberwolves' fourth overall pick.
Collins is talking more about how their trade creates more opportunity for Brand and a better fit on the floor for him with the 5's they have now, and not liking the way him and Daly fit here and in other quotes. To me...that is very detailed info that says, the trade wasnt made to fill the 3. So now...they continue back to the draft and say what is the best player available.
Former Nets GM Ed Stefanski, who is now running the Sixers’ show and owns the No. 2 pick in next week’s draft, said yesterday’s trade doesn’t change Philadelphia’s thinking.
That means they probably still take Evan Turner.
The Sixers sent Sam Dalembert to Sacramento for Andres Nocioni and Spencer Hawes, prompting speculation that they take Derrick Favors, whom new coach Doug Collins likes. Stefanski was asked how the deal affects the draft plan.
“I think it gives us the same where we were before, the same type of options we have,” Stefanski told reporters after the Favors-DeMarcus Cousins workout in Philly today. “I don’t think it changes it a lot.”
Someone then said, doesn’t it change your philosophy; will you look at more of a big man?
“I don’t see it that way,” Stefanski said.
Posturing? Maybe. But Turner is the safer pick for Ed and the Sixers. He needs to win now.
Now Iannazzone gets right to it and says they probably take Turner in this second thing I listed. And he is probably reading it right. Here is another set of comments worth looking at.
ITs all hre. Everything I said in the last post. They might like these gus...but they like them at 3 or 4 not at 2. So you want Turner...come and get him.
Sixers Expect the Unexpecte
Friday, June 18, 2010
The Sixers worked out two big men on Friday, Derrick Favors out of Georgia Tech and DeMarcus Cousins from Kentucky. Both players will be selected in the lottery on June 24 but it is a long shot that either player will land in Philadelphia with Evan Turner all but a sure thing. So why conduct the workout, one which included the two guys playing one-on-one full court?
“I think what you have to do is plan for the unexpected,” Doug Collins explained. “We don't know what's going to happen between now and draft day. You have to prepare yourself for what happens in the scenario where a team gives you a good offer to move down.”
It seems unlikely that that will happen, but with Ed Stefanski talking about wanting to continue to “tweak” his roster it is part of the homework that must be done, if not for now than maybe later.
“Everyone gets itchy towards draft day to make a deal,” Collins spoke from his experiences. “I always say that the only one who wins out of that is the phone company with all the phone calls. But you have to prepare. I think you have to see everybody and get a feel for who they are as people. But one workout doesn't change their body of work from school.”
Both big men played one year of college basketball. Favors, who is projected to go at No. 3 to New Jersey and will workout for the Nets early next week, averaged 12 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks for the Yellow Jackets. Meanwhile, the bigger, more physical Cousins averaged 15 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks with the Wildcats. Cousins believes he will be selected in the top five. His interest piqued Thursday night when he saw the Sixers had traded Samuel Dalembert.
“When I saw the trade that really gave me the thought that I can go No. 2. That helped a lot,” Cousins said of his approach to Friday’s workout. “They're in need of a big man and I could fit into that spot.”
Like the Sixers, Favors said he was in town preparing for the unexpected.
“You never know what is going happen on draft night. I just like to keep my options open and learn stuff from my workouts,” the soft-spoken Favors said.
Neither guy may end up in Philadelphia, but they could walk away with some important coaching wisdom from the Sixers’ Collins, so long as they were listening.
“They're both very talented players. They're young big guys,” Collins said. “And the one thing I’ve had a lot of experience with is young big guys. They have a big learning curve; the intensity and competitiveness of the game so changes at this level for young big guys, and I talked to both of them about that. I asked DeMarcus at dinner how many times he's played a high school game where he played against a guy who could do anything against him. He said none. And I said what about in college? And he said a few. I said ‘Well welcome to this world; you'll see it in 82 guys.’”
