Thabeet for Marvin?
Would you guys think this could get done? Our need is a big one on the inside.
Do you think we could build a coaching staff to work with Thabeet and get something out of him?
I like the idea should Memphis consider it; it doesn't sound like they have room for him on their frontline, surprisingly. They also have the Rudy Gay contract to be concerned about.
IMO, I don't think many here would complain with this risk. We need size and we need to develop that size because of our draft position.
But, if Brendan Haywood somehow would consider us, then that might make that trade moot.

I don't know how the number would work out, but I would do this today. I would be win-win for both teams. The trade would allow use to draft joe's replacement and try to resigh Josh.

Re: Thabeet for Marvin?
The Grizz drafted Thabeet number 2 knowing it would be 2-3 years before he starts to contribute, I doubt they give up on that plan only one year into it.

True Mace Case, But they have a massive overload at C. Memphis needs help at SF and PF. I love this trade! Benefits both teams. Makes our offseason much easier. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Re: Thabeet for Marvin?
td00 how about this idea instead:
Marvin Williams
Mo Evans (salary filler)
to Golden State for
the #6 pick
and either Corey Maggette or Andris Biedrins (one or the other depending on which GSW would contract they want rid of most with the pick).
My thought is actually Corey Maggette and then use the #6 pick on Demarcus Cousins (if the Kings go Greg Monroe as is rumored otherwise Greg Monroe if they go Cousins).
We get the young C at the cost of taking on the larger salary of Maggette or Biedrins. GSW dumps a really bad salary/player unhappy with his role and Marvin gives them a more cost effective forward and a taller front line. If Maggette is the guy we get then we have a scorer to take some of the sting off losing Joe and a guy who can get to the line. If it is Biedrins then we have a big front line for a change and hopefully a different coach can reach him to get him back to his higher level of production. Either combo works for me. If we have to throw in the #24 pick to make it happen then I'm willing to do it.

Evil, I like both options. This just proves the way our team is put together we have alot of options (with or without JJ).

I don't see truth behind that statement. They have Gasol as their starter and Thabeet and Haddadi as the backups, that's not an overload, might aswell say we had an overload at center with Zaza, Collins and RandMo playing behind Al. They claim they will retain Gay and Brewer so that solves the SF problem and if not they have multiple picks to address the wing and backup PF positions in a deep draft. We of all teams should know that you don't just give up hope in a number 2 pick so soon after the selection.

Re: Thabeet for Marvin?
I hear there might be some movement with Cousins heading into the picks sooner than 6.
I think he might go sooner than 6, and that might be a rish worth taking.
I don't know about going back to the well with GS and grabbing Maggette though. I am not sure we would be lucky enough to get 2 big time contributors from them.
Maggette's salary is just not good at this stage.

Maggette and Biedrins salaries are both bad (not that Marvin's is a big bargain unless his role expands). You have to be willing to absorb a bad salary or give up a lot of talent to get up into a high draft pick. If the bad salary can contribute something it isn't all bad. Also this type of trade would only be consummated on draft night when you know what you can get with the pick. Last year the Warriors had a trade in principal with Phoenix but decided they would rather keep Curry when he fell to them. If the target isn't available you move on.

Perhaps Philly is still in play here............seeing where they probably aren't done dealing.

Re: Thabeet for Marvin?
Evildallas, why would GS who are rebuilding team trade away their 6th pick, and a productive player like maggette (that has a bad contract) for marvin williams (who has a longer contract and is less productive than maggette and biedrens) + filler?
Just doesn't make sense for GS at all.

Re: Thabeet for Marvin?
Personally, I don't think GS takes on any more bad contracts at this point. Nelson is near the end of his rope, the team is looking for new ownership, and they have to show some kind of value to anyone who wants a tax burden.
I stick with trying to find a Western Division team looking to move pieces before I take ED offers for the talent and the style of play for the Hawks is on the West side of the league.
What would BK do? I'm glad we don't have to answer that!

In the proposal it's only Maggette or Biedrins, whichever one the Warriors would want to dump and the pick. Both are bad contracts and Maggette is already 30. Biedrins is totally on the outs and his production went way down after signing his 9M per year deal. Marvin Williams has 4 years on his deal it is a lower dollar figure and he has the potential to thrive in that system. Marvin just turned 24 today. He isn't counter to the rebuilding vibe. Marvin at approx 7M (average) and his age is much more tradeable asset than Maggette at 10M (average) if Golden State decides to move another direction later. If the Warriors love the prospect at #6 of course they would keep the pick, but if they have doubts then this may be a good way to shed a contract. If the savings are great enough I wouldn't be opposed to an even larger package, but the details would have to get hashed out.
Maggette (3yrs/30M)
Biedrins 4yrs/36M)
6th pick
34th pick
Marvin Williams (4yrs/30M)
Mike Bibby (2yrs/12M) (I would have used Pachulia instead but we didn't have filler to make it work in trade checker, it might work in reality though)
Mo Evans (1yr/2.5M)
24th pick
53rd pick
The Warriors reduce guaranteed contracts by 21M before counting the difference in the draft pick salaries. That's 5.5M next off-season and a 13.5 the year after that.
The Hawks take on some guarantees but restructure the lineup. I think given the situation they would resign Johnson because the pieces to compete for a title would be there (whether than gel or have a championship mentality is yet to be seen). The approximate lineup would be below. I admit that this might not be the final deal as someone else might get dealt from the front line. The Achilles would be the unproven PG, but with Crawford and Johnson as the other two guards in the rotation we might be okay.
Teague/free agent signing (league minimum vet or close to it)
Johnson/Crawford
Maggette/34th pick
Smith/Pachulia
Horford/Biedrins/Cousins
If Johnson walks then I'm trying to sign Wesley Matthews or Ronnie Brewer and taking a slightly longer term outlook on the project.
P.S. - I realize that the ASG would never do something this bold because it assures higher salary commitment from the team down the line. But this is the kind of deal that improves your talent base by overspending and by trading shorter deals for longer ones it expands your real cap number under current rules (which admittedly are likely to change). We aren't in a position yet to get a buddy deal like Gasol to LA or Garnett to Boston that changes everything, so we have to work with recovery projects from a different offensive system initial and maybe line up a buddy deal down the road when we have contracts of size expiring to pair with younger talent.

That could end up being very good for you guys. Sooner than later too.

READ my signature. Both quotes came from both players TWITTER accounts. Both players were number 2 overall draft pics. See the difference?
I would rather have ZaZa on the floor.
