With the tax laws totally is disarray in Greece as opposed to the reason why Chills left 2 years ago, looks liek we have another pawn to discuss re: next year's roster.

What are the salary expectations for Chills should he return to the NBA this summer?

He wants 7-8 million; the NBA wants him for 5.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

He's not even worth 5 mil a year to me, especially not right before the new CBA.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

I totally agree with you. Some of Childress's numbers were padding during his stint with the Hawks because how Woodson used him on the floor. It elevated his offensive rebounding and FG% numbers. He's willing to do the dirty work, but has a slow release on his perimeter shot that hurts his ability to spread the floor (the defense can help off him and recover in time to affect his shot). He's got good athleticism, but not great so I don't see him as a lock down defensive stopper just a good defender. I would evaluate him out at the 2.5-3.5M price range, but likely someone else feels stronger about him (4-4.5M). I have no desire for him to be on the Hawks, I just hope that someone with something to offer in S&T takes a shining to him.

Does he have a value on our salary cap/trade opportunities or is it like David Andersen and we are able to move him for whatever we can get?
I woudn't mind having him back, but like JJ, I think that bridge has been burned.

Yes, but you can't know it right now.
He will have a value based on the offer he'll get for a sign-&-trade.

If SAS offer him the 4M, he can sign the offer shet and ATL can match, but cant trade him before Dec 15th (and one year for SAS in this example),
or they can do a sign-&-trade, and Childress would count as a 4M contract for ATL side.

He made lots of money (his contract was NET, so it was like a $30M/3yrs in NBA), so he could accept less than what he was asking tow years ago, even if he was not asking too much, maybe (we only know that they offer at first less than the MLE, and that's what turn things wrong).

But he's certainly a better player right now than he was two years ago, so it's possible that he's worth more than what we think at first. Balance it with the economy, and he's certainly worth the same thing some team would have spend for him two years ago, or even last summer.
IMO, it would be more between 4M and 5M than 3M.

This is the 1st x I've been truly excited about our off-season, but it's tempered somewhat. I liked him a lot off our bench and was sad to see him go. Chills was an incredibly high efficiency scorer (especially for a wing) who always seem to give you what you needed when you needed it. After a years adjustment, he supposedly took off this year and turned himself into a very good player for his team.

But I've got concerns about him coming back. 1st, signing (or SNT-ing) both him & JJ would prolly leave us in over the tax threshold. 2nd, how will playing Euro-Ball affect his game? How will he adjust his game now that he's no longer even an above average athlete on the floor after being one of best in the league? Are the advancements in his game this year more for suited for Euro-ball or are will they translate to the NBA? How would he fit the locker room after a 2 year hiatus hanging on the beaches of Greece?

Personally, I'd love to have him back. I'd prefer to dump Crawford to make room than lose him w/o matching an offer sheet. His value in a SNT won't be what his worth would be to the team. His value in actual $$ will be interesting though. He's really in a case without precedent.

The guy sucked anyways, he couldn't create his own shot and he was just a garbage player. How are the Hawks ever gonna compete for a title with the likes of Childress in the rotation. At some point Hawk fans are gonna have to raise the stakes and demand a more competitive product.

Childress is a superior player to Sasha, Jordan Farmar, Luke Walton, Nate Robinson, and Tony Allen, all of whom were just in an NBA Finals. Childress is absolutely a serviceable rotation player.

I'd add that two years ago, he was a difference maker against BOS. It was with Childress on the floor that ATL was at their best.
He was and won't be the best player, he creates some problems too, but he's definitely a player that can bring positive things, if the roster is rightly build, and you know how to use him. If SAS wanted to sign him two years ago, I have no doubt they knew how to use him.

I like the guy too..

I cant see why he wouldn't fit into our rotation here... He looks like he cares a lot more than Marvin.

With Evans already confirmed for next year, Childress has no place in this roster.
I have not seen his game developed that much, although I can say his shooting improved and his overall knowledge of the game increased as he played in a way similar to that of Scottie Pippen.
His lidership and general IQ has undoubtely increased, but luckily not enough to surpass what we already have with Marvin and Maurice (who was in Olympiakos before Childress, two years ago).

I hope other GMs think that he is worth an offer.

Evans opt-in for his player option, but it doesn't mean at all that Evans is confirmed into ATL project for 2010-11.

Dis-agree respectfully, I'm 1 of the few who wished Marvin would have went to Greece instead. I think the Hawks would be a better team. He has better ball handles, more assertive offensively and is actually more athletic than Marvin. And has a knack for offensive rebounding Marvin dreams about.

Not sure if I'd go that far, but as you can see above, I in 100% agreement that Chills should be welcomed back with open arms. He's a good player. Yeah, he has some limitations, but what he does bring (b-ball IQ, willingness to the dirty work, offensive efficiency) are components that this team really needs.

Childress is probably a better run/jump athlete, but Marvin is much stronger and plays better man to man defense. The "better ball handles" part is untrue as both are equally weak in that department.

Me being selfish and what we need for our roster, if Chills is going to cost us $4M over the next 2-4 years, then I am for bringing in a Brandon Bass who will help us on the inside. That kid deserves more playing time. Playing behind Howard and Gortat won't do it.
I like Bass over Childress on this roster.

Hoping for more changes to strengthen our post position, but I like:

Smoove/Horford/Bass/Zaza..Collins and Morris can find a new locker room.

I think that D21 was just saying that even when Mo exercises his PO, that doesn't mean that Sund has to keep him on the roster next season. Mo expiring could make nice filler for a trade...
