Kirk can't penetrate and dish though so to pay basically a king's ransom for his improvement in D over Steve Blake is questionable.

If you want a major improvement, Jarret Jack is a good all around triangle PG who could thrive here. We tried to draft him in 2005. Vujajic+1st+2nd?

im not against jack.. or blake for that matter

but kirk can defend well and shoot the ball well.. two of our main issues. fisher isnt the best at getting into the lane either.. and you see how well we are did with him.. with gasol and bynum in the lane, kobe being everywhere, kirk and artest will spot up.. we need someone to stretch..

if we are looking to save some of our MLE.. trade for kirk, sign a big for vet min, and sign a slasher to play with the second unit.. (tony allen? slasher/cutter with great defense)

kirk/fisher
kobe/shooter or slasher/brown?
artest/shooter or slasher
gasol/odom
bynum/ vet big

We barely won the title and Fisher wasn't a defensive liability in that.

However, I expect Orlando to be the team we face in the future one more time and LeBron's team which will likely have a more active PG. There won't be any cross-matching in that respect but yes Kirk would be ideal. Charlie Bell does much of what Kirk does offensively and could run an offense like this one.

Again, I don't think it'll be one dude.

If Brown opts out, the Lakers sign two cheap (under two mill per year) players like Livingston/Head or Blake/Mason.

Together, those aforementioned players give you what Hinrich gives and more, for far less money combined.

that plan sounds good too.. the thing is, with two people instead of one, is that you cant have what they bring individually on the floor at the same time..

for instance, if person A is a shooter and person B is a defender, you can only have one or other in the game. with kirk you have what person A brings and what person B brings all in one.

all in all, i believe we will end up doing what you think will happen.. but we HAVE to attempt to make a run at kirk imo

Here is 6 maybe 7 step process to a successful summer for the Lakers.
Step 1. Resign Phil
Step 2. Buy a 1st round pick Atl,Minn could have theirs available. Draft Eric Bledsoe
Step 3. Resign Fisher
Step 4. Sign a new PG with half the MLE doesn't have to be a starter. I personally like Will Bynum
Step 5. Sign Ian Mahinmi to replace Powell
Step 6. Sign and draft a few young C's to compete for the backup C position.
Step 7(maybe). If Shannon opts out go after a vet SG maybe Stackhouse, Mason (if he can still play)
Lakers 2010-2011 roster (With Shannon)
PG. Fisher, Bynum, Bledsoe
SG. Kobe, Brown, Sasha
SF. Artest, Walton,
PF. Pau, Lamar, Mahinmi
C. Bynum, young C

McGrady for 3m, Fisher for 2m, Brown gets a raise of 1m, Brad Miller 1m, and a draft pick?

Trade Sasha's bitch ass for a long-term PG if you can.

I would give Mcgrady the minmum, Fisher for 2m sounds right, I dont see the point in MIller and I dont see why he would want to come to the Lakers, if Brown opts out he's a goner no point in resigning him. And Sasha more than likely is stuck in LA for another.

Could always go with Sasha for Charlie Bell, just T-Mac off the bench with Bell playing major minutes at two separate positions. Perhaps sign Earl Watson as well.

PG- Fisher, Bell, Watson
SG- Bryant, McGrady
SF- Artest, McGrady, Walton
PF- Gasol, Odom
C- Bynum, Miller

Miller in limited minutes is an improvement over Mbenga and fits very well in the triangle.

PG- Watson
SG- Bell
SF- McGrady
PF- Odom
C- Miller

Is an excellent second unit.

Charlie Bell...it'll be 20 years from now, and we'll still be hearing his name bandied about. Him and Steve Blake.

Bell also has a crazy wife aka Douh Christie wife crazy.

I wouldn't touch Blake with a 10 ft long pole now. Makes me appreciate Jordan Farmar more.

Miller maybe a nice fit but he can still play pretty well why would he come to the Lakers to come off the bench and play pretty minimal minutes.

He won't be playing minimal minutes, which is exactly why we need someone like him. I'd expect for Kobe's minutes to be cut back this season, and it's not like Artest is getting huge minutes either. There are 96 minutes to share between the 2/3 spots, so assuming that Kobe and Artest get 33 a piece that leaves 30 for Miller.

Another great point semi. We need to start figuring out a way to cut Kobe's minutes down the 35 range, at least during the regular season. There's easily 30 out there for Miller.

Plus, it's not like this is one of those jerkoff fantasy trades. The guy made a point to mention us as a team he'd like to play for. He knows what our roster is, and our salary structure. As such, I can't imagine he'd be expecting a big contract.

Besides, who's going to throw big money at him?

lets get Rambis on the phone to hook us up

sasha/mem 2nd/$2mill for #23 from Minn......not only do we get back in the 1st rd we dump Sasha contract sooner and would make it easier for mgmt. to spend MLE, cause from what I've heard mgmt. doesn't seem to want to spend MLE on anybody this upcoming year.

^ agree on that, a three wing rotation of Kobe, Ron, Miller would create all kinds of havoc. Never a chance to rest for the opposition.

But, if you MLE Miller (and I had LA giving him 4.2 mil which I think would attract him enough over the others and get him), LA has to find a way to get a PG.

To the other guy who suggested buy a pick to draft Bledsoe, he'll be long gone, espn over the weekend said quite possibly to Indy at 10. I like your Mahinmi suggestion but he already said last month playing time will determine where he signs, and there's no minutes in LA for him as 4th big unless someone gets hurt (Bynum ahem). Could give him the MLE leftover from Miller, approx 1.9 which would be double his minimum and might attract him.
