OT- Anyone play Buzzerbeater? Its like yahoo fantasy, sorta

Post#1 » by Boss_ » Mon Jun 21, 2010 6:08 pm

Alright so like 3 months ago I was screwing around in the OT boards like usual, and came across some dude who mentioned buzzerbeater.com and that its a basketball simulation site and its something to do on your spare time if you're a hoops head, sorta like yahoo fantasy since many of us play that.

I gave it a shot since its a free site and signed up, my first impressions of it was that it looked alittle cartoony (the players and graphics and stuff), and that you can get alittle overwhelmed because there's alot of things to do at first and the guides aren't very noob friendly; and their help board isn't anything like this forum at all..

But I stuck to it for a few days and once you get the hang of it, as a hoops head, you'll probably get addicted to it.

Anyway, this is how the game works.
You get like 3 games a week, you have to set your lineup, the starter's and bench players, and set your offensive tactics (like motion, run and gun, look inside, low post, etc)and defensive tactics(full court press, 3-2zone, 2-3zone, man to man, etc).

You also get to pick if you want your pg to guard the other teams SF if hes a good defender and the other team has a superstar outside guy at SF.

Like in the NBA there's a "salary cap sort of, you have weekly income, and if you get players that are too expensive you get fired as a general manager eventually, cuz technically you're a GM along with being a coach. You start off in a lowly divsion but you win your way up to higher divisions by winning the championship in your league and beating everyone in the playoffs, and, as you promote to better leagues you get more income.

These are the stats every player has..this is one of my guys.
Owner: bossesofbosses
Weekly salary: $ 3 931
Age: 19 Point Guard
Height: 6'3" / 190 cm
Potential: star
Game Shape: respectable
Jump Shot: mediocre ↑ Jump Range: mediocre
Outside Def.: strong Handling: respectable
Driving: average Passing: respectable
Inside Shot: awful Inside Def.: awful
Rebounding: average Shot Blocking: average
Stamina: pitiful Free Throw: pitiful
Experience: atrocious

Like in real life, every offseason there's a draft. Like if you draft a young player with good potential, like a danilo gallinari, they can get much better if you train them and give them minutes. But if a player is old you can't train him anymore, and if the guy is like 30 years old and higher, he loses his skills slowly. But older players are more experienced than younger dudes so they don't turn the ball over or stupid stuff like that if its 4th quarter and score is close. As a GM you need to pick how much money you want to invest in the draft to scout players, though.

There's a transfer list to buy better players and to sell your players to get better, or you train your rookies to become superstars.

You build up your arena to get more income if you're selling out, you set arena ticket prices, you schedule scrimmages to train your rookies and players...you hire staff like a PR manager, player trainer, team doctor (because your guys get injured once in a while)..

And the interesting part..there's a national tournament. Team USA actually stinks in this game, there's alot more players that play from Italy and Spain and china, so we've been losing to other countries alot because they've been training better players.

Well that's about it, thought I would share my experience with it since most ppl like Yahoo fantasy, gives you something else to do while we wait for 2010 FA to kick off. The cool thing too is the offseason for this game is very small so the game continues throughout the summer unlike yahoo. Right now the draft is coming up so if you were to join now, you already missed out on the playoffs and you're probably eliminated, but you get to edit your draft and set your lineup for when the season starts again in a week. Maybe one of you guys can actually train the next Kobe Bryant and help Team USA not suck so much compared to the much bigger china/spain/italy =p

Peace.

I've made a thread about this before: it's an AWESOME game.

It's very deep and complicated but easy to learn at the same time. It's definately worth checking out if you have the free time.

Also - nice record BoB! 19-3 is a great record for your first full season. Best of luck in the playoffs!

That game is awesome but we need more Americans playing it. Currently we only have 4,000 teams out of the 60,000 teams around the world. America national team gets stomped on by Italy, Spain and others so go sign up for your country.

How's everyone doing w/ their teams?

Do you find its better to build from within or to just look for good deals on transfers to move up the league ladder?
