Trade rumor on the Bulls board (Deng for Pietrus/Gortat)

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Mon Jun 21, 2010 6:54 pm

This was posted over on the Bulls board and I see it wasn't posted over here. Who knows how legit this rumor is. I think this guy posted something about a JJ Redick trade to the Bulls last season and obviously it didn't happen. But then again he probably reports what he hears and what he hears isn't always going to come true. This does make a ton of sense for the Magic and it makes sense for the Bulls if they do indeed add LeBron.

ok,he called me this morning and told me that bulls are in discussions with orlando,we will send deng for pietrus and gortat, thats the offer and one other irrelevant one is turkoglu for dalembert swap, also john heard that amare's 1st choice is miami, bosh's 1st choice is maimi too, boozer's is either new york or nets and lebron its 50-50 between us and staying to cleveland

He also said that the Magic offered the trade.

now THS would be a good trade for you guys.. and i can see actually happening because chicago wants and needs a big bodied center... deng would be a big upgrade at the SF position for you guys.. tho maybe not on defense, a huge one on offense

Also if you are going to attack the credibility of the report fine, but it would also be interesting to hear Magic fans take on such a deal *if* it were to be legit.

This poster is on vacation atm, which would make sending fake rumors back to RealGM a little looney.

Re: above post - Deng is great on defense, one of the top defending SF in the league. Even vs LeBron he does a respectable job.

As far as I know, JOHN hasn't broken any news yet like a Tech N9ne or Insideinfo (I could be wrong) so that's the only problem I have with him. This rumor does make a lot of sense though for the Magic so it's probably accurate.

well then its definately a plus for the magic.. but this will also keep rashard at the 4 .. which at this point, i still think he is not an effective SF anymore, he just doesnt have anywhere near the agility and ball handling skills he once had.. again, this would help both team.. and chicago probably wants to get rid of deng's contract to be able to add lebron and another good FA

Nelson - (CJ Watson)
VC - (Redick) - Draft
Deng - Lewis - Draft
Lewis - Anderson - Bass
Howard - MLE

I'm not sure how much better this team is not knowing the other pieces.

Deng contract is nasty and he's been up and down the last few years. I'd def consider it but there might be something better out there.

I dont know it does add some long term salary and I am actually one of the ones who wants to see shard slid back to the 3 spot and go with a more traditional lineup, I have not seen deng play enough to really comment on his D but has he not been injured quite a bit the last few seasons?

I'm failing to see how we would benefit from this deal, looks like we'd just be shuffling names...

Deng was really good when he was healthy last year. 18 points/7 boards/ with good percentages.

The problem is..... he's not always that healthy.

I'd intrigued....it's just a question of durability.

I don't care about MP(so long as we resign JJ), it's Gortat that we'd really need to replace.

Still, not sure how much sense this one makes, as Luol doesn't address any immediate needs.

Not feeling this one at all.

Deng was good until he got nervous (he and Ben Gordon) during contract year and played like crap, only to be rewarded w/ that huge ass contract.

Every since then he's been hurt and last season he looked completely outta shape the entire year.

Only positive to his game is that he can consistently hit that mid range shot.

Thumbs down. I like Gortat/ Peaches better.

Off Topic (maybe needs its own thread):

I kinda wished we woulda done that 2008 offseason JJ Redick+ for Andrea Bargnani deal, then we wouldn't be in this predicament.

If Deng could stay healthy this would be a HUGE trade for us. Pietrus has the Bbal IQ of a rock and Gortat wants out. Deng is aggressive, has good handles, good passer, still decently young and is what this team is missing. My only issue is i think we can get another small piece out of this trade. Whether it be a second round pick or us swapping picks. Something to that idea. Deng is a MASSIVE contract for a player who is oft injured. Not to mention we are sending a young good big man in return for a wing. A pick or swapping of HAS to be involved.

^ krazysixersd why do you always seem to be trolling around the magic board bashing trade rumors and trying to "explain" to everyone how we overrate our players? Bored?

We are losing two main backups who both contribute a lot to the team for a injury prone up and down type of player. I really like Deng but he really isn't worth two main players like Pietrus and Gortat to tell the truth.

I don't think Deng is a good fit for the Magic in any respect but defense. The Magic don't utilize the midrange jumper, he can't shoot the 3 well enough, and he doesn't create offense of the pick and roll. Plus, I think he's vastly overpaid. I'll state again what I stated in the draft thread, I think the Magic's problem is on offense not defense and I don't think Deng solves this.

I don't think the value for Pietrus and Gortat is bad, but I don't like the fit.

Perhaps you could point me as to where I mentioned anything about trading Gortat for a top 5 or Pietrus for a superstar? My impression of Deng just isn't very high: he seems like a questionable player [though obviously with some potential] and long contract... and that doesn't exactly shiver my timbers enough to give up a couple role players... I'm also not a fan of what all the kids these days are calling the "stretch 4" and Deng would likely give us no alternative...

I didnt want to be the one to post this rumor.

The originator of the rumor lives in Greece & supposedly relays info that he overhears.

Last year he did report the Reddick talks/trade rumor - but that info was being leaked by Orlando media at the same time.

The problem I have is that none - repeat, NONE - of the rumored trades reported by our agent in Greece has ever happened.

Bulls fan here but living over in Melbourne for the past 21 years, I get to follow and root for the Magic a lot. This deal is really good for Orlando. He can play 35+ minutes, is one of the best rebounders at the SF position, a very solid defender and would fit well with Howard because of his off the ball movement.

The question is can he stay healthy but at the cost of Pietrus and Gortat, IMO it's well worth it. Gortat hardly played last year and as long as Howard is there, the minutes won't change. Gortat is making 7 mil to play 13 minutes a night, that's not good. Deng is a upgrade over your starting SF as well

If and it's a big IF, that LBJ goes to Chicago, than this deal is good for the Bulls as well. They get a 3 point threat that can play SG and defend in Pietrus and they get a guy in Gortat that if he played 20+ a night, would be a solid contributor to his team.

As a Bulls fan, I'd only trade Deng if it was after landing LBJ and if we don't land LBJ, which is highly likely, than I'd rather keep him. He is a really good player
