people, stop overrating Peaches. He is a swingman that was supposedly brought in for defense. Instead, i see a person that blows a lot of lay ups, has fell in love with the 3 pt shot, and when was the last time he played great defense? Pierce at his lunch with all his pump fakes. Deng plays good defense, not all-world but good, is young at 25, moves fast, has a great mid range game. Has he missed some games, yeah, but he was almost 17/7 3 out of the last 4 years.

^ OK with that logic then bulls fans should have no reason not to include Noah for a Bosh S/T? Because I mean Bosh is so much better.

I don't think KrazySixerd is wrong. It's normal to overrate ones players, and we are doing it here. While Deng for Gortat/Pietrus would be a great trade on paper, I don't think it is for THIS Magic team.

I'll just quote Mark
Just Plain Mark wrote:I don't think Deng is a good fit for the Magic in any respect but defense. The Magic don't utilize the midrange jumper, he can't shoot the 3 well enough, and he doesn't create offense of the pick and roll. Plus, I think he's vastly overpaid.

I'd be fine with that trade.

Pietrus is usually a good fit off the bench and makes about half of Deng's paycheck with only a couple years left. Gortat's contract is obviously bloated and extended, but I feel as though we'd be able to get rid of it at will...

On the other hand, the salaries of Deng and Lewis will be increasingly more difficult to work with, and [if just so happens that we find an actual 4] we would have one very highly paid sixth man. Also keep in mind that Howard's player option comes before those contracts would expire, and even once Lewis would be clear off the books we still likely wouldn't be able to do anything in free agency due to Deng's highest contract year. It just seems like a very big gamble, for the only way that I can see the deal beneficial would be if Deng were to turn into near star calibur player (which I doubt in our system, but who'll know by then I guess :P ). Or perhaps Otis doesn't plan on keeping his job in a couple of years..

Bosh is going to have to want to come to Chicago first - and there are other destinations more attractive.

But let's say he picks Chicago - Bosh hates playing Center & would not want Noah traded for himself

Also, if Bosh wnats Chicago, Toronto is not in control of the trade. No team has to give them a good player. If Bosh goes to Chicago, Toronto will either get Deng, Hinrich or a Trade Exception.

I'd do this trade in a second. Luol Deng is a better defender than Pietrus or Barnes. Furthermore, he is a solid rebounder, provides length, and can get to the line (relative to anyone else on Orlando). You are a complete moron if you wouldn't trade Gortat and Pietrus for Deng.

from my recollection, deng had a great mid range shot, that fell off towards the last few weeks of the season last year, but it could have just been a slump he can bounce back from.....also, i recall him as being a hesitant 3-pt shooter even when open, so to ask him to be a 3-pt threat is unrealistic to me.....and what quality back up center(s) can you get for the MLE ?.....my initial reaction is not a good move for orlando

+1

That would be a dream trade for us, deng is a better than barnes in every aspect of the game, and we get to keep him as the back up 3, plus with redick on board how much do we need pietrus anyway?.

While gortat may be missed it was pretty clear that we were never going to pay that much for a back up center that will get at most 12 mpg playing behind dwight, so the loss isnt big here either.
If this trade goes down it would be a very good move for us, though I would magine the bulls will ask for more.

On paper, this trade seems like a fantastic deal. Deng has a nice midrange game and is a good iso player, which would definitely help us in the playoffs. I think our lack of a scorer in isolation situations hurt us a lot vs. Boston.

But I have concerns with Deng's injury problems. I'm sorry, but after that whole Grant Hill thing, I'm always hesitant in trading for oft-injured wing players with large contracts. Deng did play 70 games which does give me some hope, but still, the previous two seasons trouble me.

In the end, I'd probably do that deal if we got a deal in place for a quality backup C. I'd consider this deal even more if we managed to keep Barnes for the right price.

people also remember, Deng is a very good defender, and is 6'9. He is a very good rebounder, and that is the same size as Boozer. It is sizable salary, but if he is healthy, it is worth it (easy for me to say).

Yup, if Deng is healthy then it's a no-brainer for us IMO

One thing to consider is that acquiring Deng would mean Lewis stays at the 4 full time.

you guys do realize that you dont have to be a 3 point chucker to be a good player right? it seems like the first thing on the orlando magic fan checklist is: Can he chuck and make 3 pointers!

I dont like the idea because as said before it assures us that lewis stays at the 4 spot which is something I want to see changed

Luol Deng is a very solid player who has solid defense to go along with slashing and mid range game and you add the fact that he is only 25 and it looks like a great deal. The only thing I dislike about this is the fact that Luol has been injuried often and hasn't played a complete season except for one time. Along with this we are giving up two solid players who might not be the player Deng is but they provide great depth and spark to this team. If Deng could stay healthy it would be a great deal but this is a big time if.
