Lakers : Free Agency

Post#1 » by LLcoleJ » Mon Jun 21, 2010 7:59 pm

With the championship in the books, parade done and the summer of being a back to back champion upon us. It's time to start looking ahead at the make up of this team next year to go for the 3peat.

With this being one of the biggest FA periods in the history of the NBA that I can recall, we need to make sure we don't rest on our laurels and improve through FA's.

There have been a couple threads about FA's that could bolster this team.
I am going to assume the Lakers resign Fisher and I am don't want to make this a trade thread.but I wanted to start a running list of FA's that could be attractive to us.

I am going to throw some names out there that would be in our wheel house. ( PG, Shooter, defender, etc)

Signing players with our exceptions and min deals:

Mike Miller
JJ Redick
Randy Foye
Shawn Livingston ( ?)
Raymond Felton
Ronald Murray
Steve Blake
T-Mac
Roger Mason
Korver

There are also some dark horses that have caused angst to the laker nation, but might help this team next year.

Matt Barnes
Raja Bell

( ugh)

I don't think we will look for a Big, but I certainly wouldnt be opposed to adding size. I just think we need to address these areas first.

Please add to the list and discuss any of the potential FA's as they fit with the Lakers in 2010-11.
Cheers. — Mags

I like Miller and Felton, I can see Miller but Felton used to go out with Chloe so having him might not be the best idea with Lamar on the squad. With that being said give me blake and miller and we coool.

Roger Mason, T-Mac, and Kurt Thomas for the MLE with Chris Duhon for the veteran minimum would be something.

Jermaine Oneal for the vet min, Ron gets him to join us to chase a ring before he finishes his career. Plays the Powell/Mbenga role since he could play the 4 or 5.

If we can't get any guard to come cheap we might be stuck with Sasha and Brown. Last LA times report had the Lakers not using their MLE this offseason. We also have 2 second round picks this year which will hopefully be used instead of sold * cough cough Dejaun Blair cough cough*.

Lakeshow signs T Mac or Barnes for the Vet Min, Blake for the LLE (around $2.5 million), drafts Vazquez from Maryland or Scheyer from Duke, Shannon opts out and gets a 5 year $15 million pay day (twitter with Ariza during the playoffs) and resign DJ & Powell to round out the roster... '10/'11 Roster is as follows:

PG: D Fish (6'1"), Blake (6'3") (PJ may start Blake) & Vazquez (6'7") or Scheyer (6'6")
SG: KB24 (6'6") & Sasha (6'7")
SF: Artest (6'7"), T Mac (6'8") or Barnes (6'8") & Luke (6'8")
PF: Gasol (7'0"), LO (6'10") & Powell (6'9")
C: Bynum (7'1") & DJ (6'11")

I prefer Barnes in leiu of T Mac but he is young and wants money therefore I consider it lower probability... Lakers will draft either Vazquez or Scheyer which are both legit combo guards who can shoot, move the ball, have high hoops IQ's and come from good programs... Keep in mind that T Mac can play in the backcourt and Kobe can slide to the SF at times therefoe are somewhat interchangeable... I would like another guard but given our salary cap it may be a challenge...

If we don't make a run at Miller I'll be pissed. He's way, way, way at the top of the list.

Duhon is a free agent last I checked. I'm surprised his name hasn't been tossed around that much.

Steve Blake and Kwame Brown and that's probably about it.

We're not using the MLE to sign Mike Miller, even though I'd love it. I would also love Udonis Haslem on this team, but I really doubt we'll use the MLE unless we can trade either one of Sasha or Luke.

So basically between now and free agency if anyone ever see Mitch out on the streets you got to yell to him "Mike Miller for the MLE." Hes got to know how Laker fans feel about him.

I honestly don't see Duhon as an improvement in the Triangle. If anything he seems like he would be worse b/c he looks slow. Although he was a Blue Devil so he can't be that bad.

I think that if we draft Vasquez, Scheyer, Ebanks or Da"Sean Butler (As much as I would hate seeing a Duke or WVU player on our roster), we'll be good
