Plus, it's not like this is one of those jerkoff fantasy trades. The guy made a point to mention us as a team he'd like to play for. He knows what our roster is, and our salary structure. As such, I can't imagine he'd be expecting a big contract.

Besides, who's going to throw big money at him?

This is exactly why I think a backup SG/SF is more important than a PG this offseason. If you were to take a poll about which Lakers pieces are most important to their recent success. I'm willing to bet number 1 and 2 would be Kobe and Pau. When it comes to our big man rotation it is set. Our 3 bigs minutes are split fairly evenly. Kobe doesn't have that luxury and I think it is about time he gets it. I think that is the main selling point for the Malers when it comes to convincing Miller to join. They can tell him he will get something like 30 minutes a game because it is very important to lower Kobe's minutes.

Derek Fisher can easily have his minutes lowered. The Lakers can have Farmar and Sasha back his minutes up and if that doesn't work then the Lakers can look for a trade somewhere before the deadline.

I posted it in the Javaris Crittenton thread but just a heads up on this thread. He is going to be playing with the Lakers during the Summer League. If he is back then I don't see Farmar being around.

- Steve Blake, Crittenton, McGrady, Odom, and perhaps a Kurt Thomas. Now that's a bench.

like it all  especially Thomas, think he would be the best acquisting of them all even if we got Miller, just for the simple fact he is that tough/banging big we need when Bynum goes on his annual knee injury vacation. Not sure what Tmac has left though, I mean even after a year and half of recovery he still couldn't play every gm for NYK.

If they didn't last year with guys like Collison available at the 22nd pick I doubt they do this year.

No chance unless they see a young big man they really like to be either the backup PF or backup C.

Eminu very likely is the backup C which is fine. They just need a guy at PF/C behind Lamar to replace Josh Powell.

You think signing them would require the MLE or could the Lakers throw them other contract types?

Im not very good with the whole salary cap thing...I mean, I know the basics, but cant you split the MLE between two people.

From what I understand you could do that. I like what Livingston can bring to this season but his downside is no 3 point shot. As of now it is not clear if Derek Fisher will be the starter next season or if he will be coming off the bench. I would really like to see Fisher come off the bench and for the Lakers to get a 3 point shooting pg like Blake.

Kwame Brown should not be signed over Mbenga IMO.

Kwame Brown would however be an excellent third center to sign for the minimum ,,, just not for a team with three centers already (and like I said he ain't better than Mbenga).

If we trade one of the centers, get Kwame on the phone to be our third center, but otherwise I don't see the need to sign another bigman unless we lose one.
------------------------
Shaun Livingston is a special player. He is a floor general in the mode of Nate McMillan, Andre Miller, and J-Kidd.

His jumper doesn't scare me because I know it will get better playing for the Lakers. What scares me is his ability to guard PGs. Is his defense better, the same, or worse than Fisher's defense?

... I think it's probably the same. If he can contain quick Points, he's the perfect choice IMO.

If he can't defend the Westbrooks', the Brooks', the Rondos' and Nelsons' of the world, then he can't come on with another guy like Mike Miller who can't guard PGs either.

Liivngston just might have gotten his knee to the point where he can actually guard some of these quick PGs ... I don't know.

If not, then Chris Duhon is an adequate replacement.

we need a shooter and quicker point guard
not sure how Jamal Crawford is in the locker room, but he would be a good guy to help increase our bench's point scoring

T.J. Ford would be a solid starting point guard for us

both these players would probably want more than what we can offer

we can't draft a good starting point guard with our picks, but i hope we draft the best shooter left in the draft

also signing TMac would be a tough decision since we have no idea how he will end up

Doc says Sheed is probably going to retire. He has two years left at 6M per guaranteed, is that wishfull thinking?

How does that work if player retires prior to the contract ending?

I think the team can go to the nba and ask them to get out of the contract.

Did anyone see the rumor that the Lakers want to add Crittenton to the summer league team? That would be a nice pickup.
