Cousins.

White. Apparently he can be a beast defensively. Compared himself to DWade. Obviously not the talent, but if he can bring that kind of game off the bench he'd be a great pick. Shoots well, scores well, plays good defense. Whats not to like. Ohh, he sounded pretty dumb but its ok, we're not talking about the 3rd pick here.

I'm starting to have second thoughts about Cousins ability to play (defend) the 4. Everyone seems pretty convinced he cant because he weights 290, what about Blair (277 but 4 inches shorter) and Davis (298)? Those guys seem to do OK.

Blair is a terrible defender. He doesn't have the physical tools to defend any position in the NBA. It's why he's never going to be more than a bench player. Davis has quick feet, but once again, he's still never going to be more than a bench player.
I don't see the point in comparing Cousins to undersized hustle bigs off the bench.

This latest Dave D. article makes it sound like we're leaning more towards Favors:
http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2010/0 ... t_can.html
Some interesting things in the article: He said cousins lost some weight down to 292 but that might be an error because he was 292 at the combine right? Either way if he's still that heavy it's definitely a concern.
Also according to Greg Polinsky they don't think Favors is as out of shape as the Timberwolves camp claimed. The report is that the Timberwolves promised to take him if he's available at 4.

I don't see the point in comparing Cousins to undersized hustle bigs off the bench.
The point is that people say Cousins can't play PF because of his weight and there are comparable players that clearly can.

There's a big difference between playing it in 4-5 minute stints as a hustle big off the bench and being a 30+ minute starting PF.
Also, as a case of curiosity, how does Cousins' quickness/jumping measurements compare to Davis and Blair?

Re: Official 2010 NBA Draft Thread (Nets To Select 3rd Overall)
It's also worth noting that Blair and Davis spend a significant portion of their minutes at the 5. One of the reasons Popavich didn't play Blair more minutes was because he wouldn't play him much next to Duncan, a center. Davis played most of his minutes next to KG or Sheed.

Jumping measurement stacked up pretty bad for Cousins, but quickness (lane agility and sprint) were pretty good.
Cousins: 11.40 3.55
Blair: 11.50 3.45
Davis: NA
Bonus:
Curry: 12.25 3.53

Nothing new. The Nets aren't likely to trade.
Favors is getting his butt kicked by Cousins at the moment.
However, things are moving back to the Sacramento model for the N.J. workout. Apparently Favors' agent complained that the workout in Philly consisted of Cousins fouling Favors on every play, so we're back to two big guys in a gym shooting jump shots.

^^^
An overview of the article.
- Still on this idea that the Dalembert/Nocioni/Hawes swap changes the needs for Kings and 76ers (I don't buy it at all), but says the 76ers are still locked in on Turner and the Kings on Cousins/Monroe.
- Top 4 teams are sending strong signals that they will keep their pick (no surprise there).
- Kings, Pacers, Hornets and Bucks looking to trade down
- Pistons, Grizzlies, Raptors, Rockets, Spurs, Thunder, Blazers and Nuggets would like to move up
- Pacers, Hornets and Bulls might look to trade out of the draft completely
- Pacers, Hornets, Spurs and Thunder are the most active right now
Favors vs Cousins stuff

Favors vs Cousins stuff
Favors and Cousins have now met in Sacramento and Philly, and they'll be in New Jersey together Monday. In Sacramento the two worked out on the court together but didn't actually play against each other. That changed when they went to Philly, as Favors' agent gave them the green light to bang.
Things are moving back to the Sacramento model for the N.J. workout. Apparently Favors' agent complained that the workout in Philly consisted of Cousins fouling Favors on every play, so we're back to two big guys in a gym shooting jump shots.
The stakes couldn't be higher for Favors at the moment. The general consensus in Sacramento and Philly was that Cousins was much better. That makes some sense. Cousins has 47 pounds on Favors and is much more polished on the offensive end. You would expect it to be that way.
But Favors seems to be suffering from more than that. Wolves GM David Kahn ripped Favors for his lack of conditioning and doubted that he was ready for the NBA. While that certainly could have been a David Kahn smokescreen (I haven't heard feedback he was out of shape in the other two workouts), it all contributes to the narrative that Favors is getting his butt kicked by Cousins at the moment.

Second thoughts that NOW you think he cant do it? Seems you have been saying all along that you think he can do it no problem.
