I've been pondering for a long time on how I would communicate this to my fellow Nets fans, and finally I think I have a grasp on how to put it into words.
We've had plenty of on going debates over our choice for the #3 overall pick. We've narrowed it down to basically 2 choices; DeMarcus Cousins, and Derrick Favors (Philly is picking Turner so just drop it, and he is severely overrated IMO).
Guys this shouldn't even be a debate when you analyze EVERY single factor. Let me start off by saying Cousins is the best player in this draft, hands down. In terms of effectiveness, and NBA readiness he is leagues ahead of anyone else in the elite 4 (Wall, Turner, Cousins, Favors).
But let me point out that you can have all the talent in the world, but if you don't have the right mentality it is USELESS. The case with Cousins isn't a mere maturity issue, the guys a real headcase. When you start getting into fights with fans after your team loses, as in physical aggression, but taunt them when your team wins it definitely raises some concerns; and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I've read this guy is lazy as hell, overweight (15% body fat), and refused to do the bench press workout at the combine because "he doesn't lift". With all of that in mind he would also be horrible to watch playing next to Brook. Too slow to guard 4's. Also, due to his current physical fitness he won't be able to play long minutes without hyperventilating.
My fellow Nets fans we also look at Derrick Favors. The guy is right there in terms of upside level with John Wall. A freak athlete, can run up and down the court like a gazelle, 6'10, who can already be a defensive presence and above average rebounder in the paint at the 4 spot for the Nets (something we desperately need). Let me point out he isn't a slouch on the offensive end either. From what I've seen he has a pretty nice jumper, pretty decent down low, and is only 18! A developed frontcourt of Brook and Derrick would be something to have wet dreams about. But you know what attracts me the most towards this young fella? Work Ethic. Everything I've read about his attitude has been positive. A humble, hard-working kid, pair that up with our young core, Avery Johnson, and Prokhy; ladies and gentlemen we have a recipe for success.
To wrap things up, I'm not saying that Cousins definitely won't become much of anything but a cancer on any young NBA team, but he's definitely a high risk, high reward type of player. But if it isn't working upstairs then everything else is MOOTE.
If I was a T'Wolves fan I would be outraged if Kahn went with anything but Cousins. But we have a choice!
I see that we got the #3 pick in the draft as more of a blessing than a curse. Everything happens for a reason.

Re: Your State Of Mind Affects Everything You Do
Ever since I knew we were going to get the worst record and no lower then the 4th pick. I have been watching the big 4. On lotto night I had 2 spots in mind. I either wanted #1 (Wall) or #3 (Favors). I didn't want to land #2 because I knew we would select Turner (who I just don't see as a superstar). Yes Turner will not be a bust he will be a solid player who does alot of good things but nothing great. If (now this is a big if) Favors can reach his potential we could have ourselves a young dynamic frontcourt for the next decade with 2 allstars and possibly 2 studs. (Everyone knows size wins). We really don't need Turner. Lee is a good player, he can hit open jumpers, runs the break well, and will compete on every play defensively. Turner can't play the three and doesn't have the handle to be a full time point (neither does T-Will for that matter). I'm not saying Lee isn't replaceable but SG is one of our least positions of need after the C spot. Favors is the guy we have been waiting for. He is going to step in a defend, block shots and rebound. RIght away that tells me he won't be a bust (we are desperate for that). After that everything is gravy, we know with his athletism he will be able to finish around the rim. We don't need to throw him the ball in the post all the time we have Lopez for that. If he can develop a consistant midrange J like Amare did, he will the stud PF we all want. There is no reason (with the right playing time he can't come in and average a double double right out of the gate. 12pts, 10rbs, with 2blks and solid defense. I really hope everything falls into place because he will not disappoint.

The primary thought about this draft was that it was a 2 star draft...a big drop from 3-6 and then a huge drop 7 on down.
You read that and have the worst record and you get the 3 pick you feel screwed. But now that we have analyzed it to death...looked closed at the workouts and game film of all these guys...debated for weeks, and finally read through all that people are saying...I am pleased that as draft day is just about 3....the thinking now is that hey...it may be a truly a big drop after 3 with Favors joing that group. And that Cousins talent makes you think its truly 4 deep before the drop off. its a relief to feel like these guys may in fact be better prospects that we first thought.
Of course this could be draft day excitement as it grows closer....but I am just feeling very good about our position/
Now, I am one of those that thinks Turner could become an NBA STAR. He does give me goose bumps when I see his skills. So yeah...still prefer Turner...but I dont feel like we are getting a consolation prize anymore. Well...unless we barf it up and take Wes Johnson. I wish someone would say he is out of the mix already. And I always have to say..I am a huge CUSE fan. I just dont think he is on that level. I did say a month ago...i would take him and Monroe over the risk of Cousins.
I admit...I have been brought around by the group on this one. And by really looking at him closer. I still prefer Favors...but I have him 4th on my list of who I would want in this draft.

I actually still pray for turner to drop.. Think about it favors is a gamble because of his "raw" potential and the really the fact that he hasnt proven anything in college, and cousins is a gamble because of his character problems and his lack of commitment to his body. I would rather draft Turner or a Wes Johnson and SIGN A PF such as an already polished David Lee or Carlos Boozer. Evan Turner is a proven talent with high character this kid is stud waiting to happen. Wes Johnson can also turn into something special with the right direction.
Starting Line Up
Harris
Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay
Wes Johnson or Turner
David Lee Or Carlos Boozer
Brook Lopez
