Re: The Official Rebuildation Thread
Paul George can play the two and he's pretty lights out spotting up, not very good pulling up off the dribble yet though. I would prefer to keep Lee and start him at the two in this type of hypothetical lineup with George at the 3, but you have to give to get and I don't think that they would value CDR and one of our later picks over Lee, who for all the crap we give him is very underappreciated. We could always pick up a shooter late in the draft, or by moving up some with CDR, the 27th and 31st, maybe a Luke Babbitt, Gordon Hayward, Xavier Henry, etc., or we can just sign a player like Kyle Korver, who would be great to have even in the long term.

Re: The Official Rebuildation Thread
Trade #1
OKC sends:
James Harden
Serge Ibaka
21st overall pick
32nd overall pick
NJ sends:
3rd overall pick
27th overall pick
Chris Douglas-Roberts
Yi Jianlian
Why?
OKC only does this if they truly believe Cousins or Favors is the guy they need.
NJ only does this because they know Cousins will not fit here because he's a center and they don't want to wait on the extemely raw Favors yet still want true value for the 3rd overall pick, on rookie deals.
Trade #2
Milwaukee sends:
15th overall pick
NJ sends:
Courtney Lee
Why?
Milwaukee picks up a proven commodity sharp shooter and defender to be their starting shooting guard, Salmons is more effective as a small forward anyway.
NJ does this to set up the follow up third trade...
Trade #3
Indy sends:
10th overall pick
NJ sends:
15th overall pick and 21st overall pick
Why?
Indianna fans have stated they are mainly OK with a 16th and 23rd for 10th swap, this solidifies that type of trade with two similar, yet higher picks. Makes a lot of sense for them in real life as well, they are said to be looking at Bledsoe and Bradley, both of which would be a reach at 10, or lotto for that matter, but at 15 they are good value, especially when combined with the extra pick at 21 where they can scoop one of the fallen lotto talents.
NJ trades up to get a player said to have the most potential out of anyone outside of the "Big 4" prospects and maybe one of Wesley Johnson or Greg Monroe, said player being no other than the infamous Paul George.
Final Result
Leaves NJ with:
PG Harris
SG Harden
SF George
PF Ibaka
C Brook
Bench: T Will, 31st pick, 32nd pick
If Humphries opts out, or if you can dump him for a future pick(s), we then have 2 max space in addition to the players listed without giving up Devin, all while improving for the now and the future. Makes for an interesting destination for any of the big free agents.
But, worse comes to worse, you pick up a solid vet or two on a big expiring to round out the roster and show the young guys how to play, likely recieving further assets for absorbing that salary, such as future picks or another nice young prospect on a rookie deal.

Yeah, James Harden and Ibaka for #3 is cool
But #7 and top 10 next year is not.

Re: The Official Rebuildation Thread
Question, if it were available, do you do a draft night trade of the 3rd overall and salary filler(IE, no Terrence Williams, Courtney Lee or future picks) for Carmelo Anthony?
I mean you're pretty much conceding on Lebron in this scenario, but you would have Melo and more then max cap space...

I would be open to trading for Melo but it'll take more than the #3 + Filler to get him.

Of course.

Not necessarily...there's an opening at PF that Lebron could fill.

Re: The Official Rebuildation Thread
Alright, I'm not even going to go through the why and why not's for this one, but I'm going to throw out a semi-realistic dream scenario that I have touched on briefly in this thread...
Trade #1
NJ sends:
3rd overall
Terrence Williams
Yi Jianlian
Kris Humphries
2011 1st top 3 protected
New Orleans sends:
Chris Paul
James Posey
Trade #2
NJ sends:
Devin Harris
Courtney Lee
Memphis sends:
O.J. Mayo
Hamed Haddaddi
25th overall pick
Leaves NJ with a ton of cap room and some assets to make follow up moves/signings....

You mean do both at the same time...not do either one right?
I cant see either of those trades getting done...but yeah...of course we would do that.

Re: The Official Rebuildation Thread
Well, supposedly we recently offered the 3rd overall and Devin for Chris Paul and were turned down...

That's because NO doesn't need Devin. They have Collison ready to take the PG spot over if Paul were traded.

Hence the reason I thought my trade with Terrence Williams and our 2011 pick in place of Devin made more sense, that or sending Devin to a third team like Indy for the 10th overall pick and an expiring and having that go to NOH in place of Devin.

With that idea, the Pacers getting Harris, the Hornets would wind up with: 3, 10, plus whatever. I really don't think that does it.

I understand that he's Chris Paul and all, but trades just don't typically bring back the value said player is viewed to be worth on paper.
Plus he is coming off a rather serious knee injury.
That said, I still think he stays in New Orleans, it's not even like he's on the block.

Re: The Official Rebuildation Thread
I think you are right. You wont get fair value...but trade is unlikely.
I think #3 and Devin is a good offer.... be it they keep Devin or a 3 way deal is create. Now...if they can unload another contract in the 3 way deal...then you might be cooking with gasoline. We have no interest in helping them out cap space wise.
You know, if we made the Paul deal...I would be gung ho to see Devin, Yi and Humphries out the door so we could be players for Lebron plus a big still.
The one guy i would love to hold onto is Twil (that is with Brook of course). Yi, Lee, the pick, Devin fine...whatever else. is there a team out there with cap rom that would send a good pick to the Hornets, for Okafor and Yi for example?
I mean..its all so unlikely...but man...fun to play with ideas when you have a lot of trade assets. And thats the thing. That is why you laugh off AK and Tay Prince conversations where you get weaker picks and send out true trade assets.
Eventually someone will be glad to send us a quality player for prospects. Those trade happen all the time. We have made them in both directions over the last decade.
Wow. CP3. Of today's best of the best...after Lebron he is my favorite player.

As much as I'd love to hold on to TWill and/or avoid taking a bad contract, realistically any deal that allows NJ to keep Lopez and max cap space is one you almost have to make regardless of the price.

Hornets' Paul making slow recovery from injuries
DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) -Coming off what he calls "the longest stretch of my career,'' New Orleans guard Chris Paul is making slow progress in his rehabilitation from numerous injuries and is eager to play for new Hornets coach Monty Williams.
His summer plans, including playing for the United States in the world championships, remain far from certain.
Chatting briefly from a cart before playing in a celebrity golf tournament in his home state on Monday, Paul glanced a couple times at his surgically repaired left knee and said he's still been unable to get on the floor because of injuries that kept him out of 37 games last season.
That would leave him little time for the three-time All-Star to get ready to play for the U.S. in Turkey on Aug. 28-Sept. 12.

Re: The Official Rebuildation Thread
I mean that does have to scare you a little, no?
That knee could really put a damper on his overall abilities and worse yet, it will likely have long term implications.
I still pull the trigger on him fast if the price is right and our medical team said he would be fine, but it does make me nervous. I hope he fully recovers though, I'm a big fan and he seems like a pretty stand up dude as far as pro athletes go.

I posted it because yes it is scary. My feeling? Any deal you make is always contigient on physicals anyway. So you run him through all the docs you can and decide what you are looking at.

Lets say by some unbelievable stroke of luck or PHI's stupidity, PHI passes on Turner and the Nets draft Turner.
I would be still willing to send harris to IND for the #10 pick and Ford/Murphy.
Turner, Lee, Twill, Paterson(#10), Lopez
