also, this move would just reinforce the stretch 4 lineup, and i'm not convinced the team wants to go in that direction.

he has played in 40 more games over the past 4 years than Jameer Nelson has. As far as his contract, he could be an 18/9 player for the next 5 years. He is only 25.

"MoGrady.... magicman123... y'all stupid."

Anyway,

If the team is gonna blow $10M+ a year on a player, we might as well go after Okafor & Collison instead of Deng.

I'd rather us push a package of Gortat/ Pietrus for them than Bad Porn 2.

Then you look at his performance as the Bulls 2nd option and you are underwhelmed by his 21.9% usage, sub .500 eFG%, and 106 ORtg, making me think that as a 1st or 2nd option he is only average. We have plenty of guys that can do better in that role, i.e. Nelson, Howard, Carter, and Lewis. So really on our team he would be getting paid to primarily defend and rebound, while using his substantial offensive skill set in only the best situations. He may have been a "black hole" on the Bulls but they've never had really good offensive players around him, here things would be different and I could see Deng fitting in just fine.

Big words + stat nerdin' it still = bad fit.

Dude you got him twisted if you think he's gonna be/ do that for us when he 's never been that his whole career.

well, the salaries would roughly match on the trade (pietrus signed through '12, gortat/deng both overpaid through '14), so $ is not a strong reason to accept or reject. talent/fit/injury concerns/other opportunities should get the lion's share of the analysis

He's only played 6 more games than Meer in the past 3 years though. The only reason I even mentioned Jameer in an earlier post was because people dang near had a coronary when he was signed to his current deal, and he makes less than Deng, and who knew he would miss so much time when we signed? It just doesn't seem to be a good look to pay an even larger contract to a player who has had as many problems as Meer has had in the past couple of seasons. I guess he COULD be an 18/9 player for the next 5 years, or he realistically could continue to be injury prone, we don't know. I certainly am leery of a Grant Hill/Mike Redd situation.

I like Deng, followed him 2 straight yrs in a row bc he was on my fantasy team but I agree with several of the posters that hes not the best fit or really address needs while at the same time adding alot more payroll. I agree he is a good defender but how much more than Barnes? Yes his offensive game is wayyy ahead of Barnes but we need a slasher who can get to the hole at will, we take enough jumpshots as it is.

On paper it looks like a win for us but I think we take a step back in the grand scheme of things

That wouldn't be very hard to do since mine is deceased so unless yours is gonna do it from the grave then...

Anyway this would not be the best way to use assets like Gortat/ Pietrus (up & coming C/ small expirer who hit some big momentum killing 3's for us) in a trade.

1-Dwight is aging? He is 24. He has averaged 34 minutes a night for his career. I wouldnt look for that to change until he is in his early 30's.

2- yes, he does get in foul trouble sometimes. But you cant keep spending large money for a backup on the chance that your star player gets in foul trouble. It isnt smart spending.

3-a smart GM does have a bench, but you also need a very good starting 5. Boston didnt have much of a bench when they won 2 years ago. LA basically had Odom this past year, and even he didnt do very well in the Boston series. Name 1 player that played off the bench during the Michael Jordan years in Chicago. Name one really good bench player in SA besides Ginobli. Orlando doesnt need to have a big bench, just 1 or 2 decent players and other role players that can just hold their own for a few minutes.

As for who you play if you trade Gortat, remember that Gortat was a developed player. He didnt even make the 15 man squad 3 years ago, barely made it 2 years ago. We could draft a player or trust Otis to find another project big to work on.

um, you have heard of the term freak accident, right? happens to the best of them, no matter how physically gifted they are. that's why i feel its crucial to have an insurance policy. just in case we have to go through an extended period of time without dwight. doesn't matter how old dwight is, i'd feel better knowing we have an adequate backup-but that's just me...

i guess smart spending means overloading a certain position with players that more or less bring the same goods to the table. like the duo of barnes and pietrus cannot duplicate whatever deng would bring? like most have said already - he's too oft injured and chances are we'll be riddled with yet another bloated contract. i'd feel better sticking with our duo from last year.

and lastly, yeah, we developed him. when was the last time we were able to develop a late 2nd rounder or a virtual unknown. fact is, gortat is a dime in a dozen. its been a while since we uncovered an important asset like him so pls excuse me if i would rather wait for a bigger move than this. that said, this is all just speculation and i doubt it even happens, well, i really hope it doesn't the more i think of it...

The only problem I have with this trade is the fact we don't need a SF. We need a PF so that we can move Lewis back to SF. That would solve a lot of our problems.

Why is this rumor picking up steam again?

There must be something to it. Deng would help us defensively at least... right? lol

Screw it. Gimme Ronnie Brewer in FA.

Would you rather have Turkoglu back and his contract or lose Pietrus and Gortat for Deng?
