DX: NJ taking Johnson at 3

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Tue Jun 22, 2010 4:57 pm

DraftExpress

Wesley Johnson is moving up to 3, New Jersey, on our next mock coming shortly. Told New Jersey will take him and go for a PF in free agency.

Hello Mr. Favors.

Not sure I believe it but that would be sweet for us. Move up a few spots from 16 and grab George to go with Favors and I'll be happy.

Makes some sense as there are plenty of PF's in free agency and guys have even said they'd be interested in going there. If this is how it actually shakes out I'm jacked about our future.

I've thought this for a week now. Makes too much sense not to happen. Favors is too far away for the little General. Cousins isn't a great fit next to Lopez. NJ has a much better chance of getting a PF free agent.

Wouldn't it make more sense for NJ to draft Favors and trade down, though?

This what I have been hoping for all along. Give Favors a couple of years and he will be scary good.

Makes room for a Jefferson trade to get our hands on George as well. Cousins and Monroe would go 5 and 6. Clippers like George or Henry at 8 so if we can do Al for Prince and #7 that would be sweet. We can select George and Prince coulld provide some winning vet leadership or we can ship him off to philly for AI2.

Darko - Favors - Hollins
Love - Favors
AI2 - George
George - Brewer - Ellington
Flynn - Sessions

Still have Gomes/Pek/#16/#23 to mess around with.

It will now be interesting to see what teams are offering for Jefferson and Love

Only thing I can to be semi wary of is NJ trading back, though it does seem most teams intersted in the #3 would be looking at Cousins over Favors (Det, Sac). If GSW traded up (not likely) could see them after Favors for their running team. Still, if Favors fell to us, that would be a great pick.

Yeah it does make sense that Johnson would be more of a win-now player and I think they could easily get a PF in FA. I don't buy it until it happens, but that would make it interesting. Of course we take a PF at #4 and I'll want to kill the announcers.

maybe Khan has everyone believing that Johnson is their guy and NJ is picking Wes to try and trade down with us and pick up and asset as well, but we will just select and keep Favors and say no-take-backsies.

I do agree that they will look to get Bosh or Amare rather than wait for Favors to develop, it makes sense.

Chad Ford twittered the same thing:

I have a feeling that NJ is looking to move down to pay a lower rookie salary and probably shed some salary as well since a Favors/Cousins isn't the draw to FA's as Wall/Turner is.

I think NJ is putting their love for DMC and now Johnson out there to see what they do can via trade, essentially making teams deal with them for DMC/Johnson at 3 instead of us at 4.

I'm not knowledgable enough about the salary stuff, but it sounds to me like we'd still have buckets of cap space left? Since none of the moves you described would add extra salary? How much would we have left and who could we spend it on?

I wouldn't be afraid of NJ trying to trade down with us or behind us because we're supposedly both targeting either Favors and Johnson, we'll take whoever falls to us so they'd have to trade basically with either Sac or GSW, which I don't see happening.
