Apparently NOH is trying to shed salary.

Not only can we offer them a decent talent package (Jameer, VC, Gortat, Pietrus) but we can also offer them a HUGE expiring contract in VC.

AND the TPE. Which I think really puts us over the top. They could relieve the contract of Mo Peterson right away for the TPE in a separate trade. That gets them under the luxury threshold now.

This is all making sense for both teams my friend.

The pieces fit together, it's just a matter of gettin' it done.

Aren't the Hornets in the process of changing ownership? IIRC the new owner is a local billionaire, so he may well want to keep Paul and not cut salary.

If we don't end up with any of these stars this offseason and go into next season with relatively the same team, I'm going to be pissed considering all these rumors lol.

Hornets new coach doesn't want Paul traded

By BRETT MARTEL

WESTWEGO, La. -- Hornets coach Monty Williams says Chris Paul was "the main thing" that excited him about taking his new job and that he could not envision entering next season without the three-time All Star.

Speaking at a pre-draft workout at the Hornets' training headquarters on Tuesday, Williams said Paul is the best point guard in the game. He says Paul will probably be in New Orleans for a long time, despite other team's ongoing efforts to trade for him.

Hornets general manager Jeff Bower says he's received many calls about possible trades but declined to specify which teams inquired.

Bower says he considers every offer, but also says the Hornets place a high value on what Paul brings to their franchise and the community.

Obviously the Hornets' new "no-name" coach isn't going to come in and say he doesn't want to coach Paul.

Him and Otis are just saying the PC statemtns right now.

Otis' job is easy. All he has to do is approach NOR and say, anything we have outside of Dwight can be yours. Make whatever deal you want and I'll accept.

Lets say we give them Bass, VC and Jameer and lets say we end up re-signing Redick and lets say we sign CJ Watson for cheap.

Keep in mind we'd also get James Posey in this potential trade.

Paul/Watson
Redick/Draft SG
Posey/Pietrus
Lewis/Anderson
Dwight/Gortat

We'd be a llittle thin at PF and SG; but I could live with that if we get CHRIS PAUL.

redick would get torched by many bigger sg's in the league if he were a starter. i like him off the bench better still.

Magic#1,

Just because we Magic fans know who Monty Williams is doesn't mean the rest of the league does ;)

We'll have to find a big SG in the draft then.

That or sign a big SG via free agency. Ray Allen maybe?

And here's my anual absurd trade proposal

Post#178 » by zuppafly » Tue Jun 22, 2010 11:40 pm

Usually I make one trade proposal per year/offseason on this board...
Unfortunately, and due to the restrictions with Gortat, the trade checker here in realgm doesn't allow me to see if the trade is actually valid... also, the trade checker in ESPN refuses to work..

Usually my absurd ideas are limited to a two team swap with low figures involved but this year I thought I could try something new.

So, here's my raw proposal:

Orlando sends:
Gortat + Bass to Dallas
Pietrus + Nelson to New Orleans.

Orlando gets:
Chris Paul + Okafor

New Orleans sends:
CP3 + Okafor to Orlando

New Orleans gets:
Nelson + Pietrus from Orlando
Butled from Dallas

Dallas sends:
Butler to NO

Dallas gets:
Gortat + Bass from Orlando

Throw in some picks flying around (probably for NO to help convincing them) and the trade exception of Hedo for a future conditional second round pick of NO (just to sweeten even more the deal for them in order of cap space and since it can't be used in a trade to match figures).

I'm not sure how the figures work out in the end but from my head calculations it should work under the rules.
Can someone with a working trade checker confirm?

Now the reasons:
Dallas gets Gortat and Bass (back) and gives away Butler that didn't really work out that well for them. I believe it's a good deal for them.

NO loses CP3, but I really doubt they can get better than Nelson, Pietrus, Butler, a big TE, and a couple of first round picks from Orl if needed. That's a load of talent and money.

Orl: we give away 4 players to get only 2 in return. Our depth gets hurt, I know, but bass is not really an option for SVG, Gortat would always be a backup here, Pietrus would be missed for sure and Nelson... well, I'm a Nelson fan, but we'd get CP3 in return... huge upgrade. Okafor would give us a real 4 and someone who could also play behind Dwight when SVG gets to play his stretch 4.

Our depth would be something like:
Dwight/Okafor/vet/draft?
Okafor/Lewis/Anderson
Lewis/Barnes/vet/draft?
Carter/Redick/Barnes/vet/draft?
CP3/JWill?/vet/draft?

We'd be with 8 guys under contract, and we'd need to sign someone for the MLE (or split it for 2 players) + some vets for the minimum and draft someone (or buy a pick)

A 12/13 players roster with quality and guys that can play several positions.

Thoughts? I'm I just crazy or simply in need of some good hours of sleep?

btw, after game 6 against the Celtics this is the first time I post, and let me tell you I couldn't even watch any game of the finals.... 'cause it was too painful to watch :(

Here's my crazy proposal for the offseason:

It would be a sign and trade involving us and Cleveland.

Orlando sends:

Anthony Johnson
Adonal Foyle (Convince him to come out of retirement)
Ryan Anderson

Orlando gets:

LeBron James

Get it done Otis!

Return to Orlando Magic
