This trade scares me. I'm still on the fence. We would be seriously thin at the SG position and Posey isn't a championship starter. I dunno if Chris Paul > Nelson/Carter considering the holes that would open up for us. Maybe if there was a second deal looming it might look better, but we may be better off sticking with Nelson and trying to flip Carter or Gortat for a better SG.

man, wouldn't it be something if we can pull off this trade, and yet somehow still manage to pull off a sign and trade for bosh.

Come on man...

We are all crazy enough for thinking we have a shot at Paul.

Now you are saying how awesome it would be to land Bosh too.

This thread has a purpose because there is actual talk and rumors...not speculation.

I'd have no problem losing Carter imho. I think Redick would be better for us than VC is if JJ started at SG.

Also, do you think we could get Joe Johnson for VC and Gortat?

Nelson/CJ Watson
Johnson/Redick
Barnes/Pietrus
Lewis/Anderson
Dwight/Filler backup-center

or

Paul/CJ Watson
Redick/Drafted SG
Pietrus/Posey
Lewis/Anderson
Dwight/Gortat

I'd take the second option imho

I'd hate to get rid of our third string PG seeing how Jameer is always injured, but I think I'd have to pull the tirgger on this trade.

It's close, but I have to say that'd I'd probably go through with it.

lol now you guys are getting greedy...you're going to be thin at certain positions when trading for an all world talent like chris paul. why don't we see what the roster looks if a deal is made and not worry about what it would look like now.

Cleveland could throw in their unprotected pick for 2011 to help convining us.
After all, for Cleveland, wouldn't really be a loss because any team with Ryan Air and Foyle would probably be in the late 20's...

Yeah I'd have no problem with getting rid of Carter either. I just dont think Nelson is a player that we absolutely have to replace in order to win a championship. We can win with Nelson. I do think Carter IS a player we need to replace if we want to win. So in my eyes we would be getting better at PG but also making an even bigger hole at SG. Maybe try to make a lesser deal involving Gortat, Anderson, Bass for a nice piece or try and trade Carter near the deadline. I just feel trading for a new PG is more of a luxury than a necessity. I think Redick is great but i don't like him as a certified starter. Just my opinion though, I wouldn't put anything past Redick at this point.

I don't know man, if you have a chance to have the best PG in the NBA and the best center in the NBA, I think you have to go for it even if it means you're a little thin at a couple of other positions.

Just my feelings.

Please don't start this into a flame thread guys.

This has been a great discussion thread so far so please don't ruin it.

I think that could be one of the best parts (other than Chris Paul of course) about the trade...

Any trade we make with NO is not going to leave us thin anywhere.

We ship out a big in Gortat, a guard/forward in Carter, and a PG in Nelson.

We likely get a big in Okafor, a guard/forward in Posey, and a PG in Paul.

The only talent shift is really with Carter/Posey and being one of the people here that would rather see JJ start, I welcome it.

Our only holes remain at backup PG maybe some wing depth. Grab CJ Watson and draft a young wing and then we are set.

I agree with you.

I'm not so sure Okafor wouldn't be able to put up the same #'s as Gortat in the 8-10 MPG he would get with us.

I really don't see that big of a dropoff in backup center between Gortat and Okafor. I don't think we'd lose much at that position.

Relax bro, anyone here can say anything they want. But if you come in the middle of a legit discussion and throw out ridiculous statements, don't be surprised if you get an unfavorable reaction.

I agree completely...and there would be a lot less pressure on SVG to find him minutes. Gortat is the kind of guy that COULD get a lot better but you just don't know unless you give him plenty of minutes to develop...with Okafor, you know what you will get and you can expect it to stay that way.

Not saying it is a good thing that we are a guy that could potentially be better, just saying it helps the whole thing work.
