Raps likely talking to Charlotte, Indiana about PG trade?

Post#1 » by Rhettmatic » Wed Jun 23, 2010 1:00 pm

Smith says those are the two teams that make sense for a trade of one our point guards.

http://thestar.blogs.com/raptors/

The “but as you know …” thing is the most important there because if there’s a deal, he’s going to make it and I’m told there is quite a bit of interest out there in each of Jarrett Jack and Jose Calderon.

Now, many have read that Indy wants a point guard and I’m told Charlotte’s in the market as well so we can guess phone lines have been burning between those cities.

Also thinks a trade of some kind -- not necessarily the point guard variety -- will go down for the Raptors very soon. Spidey sense!

The list is narrowed, no doubt about it, as we get to T-minus one day and counting to the draft.

As was mentioned in today’s yarn (it’s here for those who missed it) there is all kinds of activity going on and there is no doubt in mind that some kind of transaction comes down between now and the end of the draft.

But if the pick remains the No. 13 selection – and I’m thinking more along the lines of a straight trade or the addition of a pick rather than dealing away the selection – I have a sneaking suspicion the list has been narrowed to four or five.

And I posted this in sub's thread too, but he figures the Raps have narrowed their draft focus to four guys -- though the imaginary Derek Bledsoe could sneak in, too!

I’ve got Epke Udoh, Cole Aldrich, Paul George and Avery Bradley on it with Derek Bledsoe and Patrick Patterson as longer shots.

Having Bradley back in just to have dinner and be checked out by the doctors was an interesting revelation and has to speak to some serious interest on this end.

He and Aldrich are the only two legitimate No. 13 candidates who’ve made multiple visits to Toronto but the Raptors have done all their due diligence on the others, too.

The Bobcats are "very active" in trade talks around the NBA, a source told the Charlotte Observer.

The source, which came from within another team's front office, said the Bobcats seem willing to increase their payroll if they can swing a move that will allow them to significantly improve.

i think the only deal with the Bobcats is Diop + either Augustin or Henderson. The pacers have purely expiring contracts to offer but i dont know if they would even do expiring for Jose.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

What about Diaw? That gets us out of Calderon's contract a year early and gives us someone who, when not fat and unmotivated, is capable of playing defence.

true but where does he play? Unless Hedo is moved i just dont see time for Diaw. I mean if we draft an Aldrich, re-sign an Amir Johnson there isnt that much playing time to go around. Id do the deal but id try to include a 3rd team

Not sure about Indiana because they are losing a lot of $$$. They are in the market for a point guard but are they willing to invest ~32.3M (10% TK included) over the 3 years in Jose?

EDIT: Spelling mistake

I'm pretty sure Hedo will be moved. Diaw can certainly play some time at the 4 without Bosh around.

Isn't TJ expiring? I'd trade Jose for TJ. Let TJ back up Jack for a year and let him run and chuck with the second unit. He might excel running in transition with Athletes like DD, Weems and Amir.

Good question. But they've been rumoured to be considering trading their 10th pick for a point guard -- maybe taking on a crappier contract like Jose's but keeping their pick is appealing to them, I don't know.

But it wouldn't actually be $32.3M because they'd have to send something back to us.

Am I the only who thinks that he hasn't said anything that we already didn't know?

Rhet, instead of Diaw think we can get Jackson? He would be pretty perfect here.

To TOR: Jackson + Augustin + Diop
To CHA: Calderon + Evans + #13

think thats semi-fair for everyone?

Any PG trade to Indy is simply nonsense. Makes me wonder how much of an insider Doug Smith could actually be. Is he forgetting that Indy had the opportunity to sign back their own restricted free agent Jack last year and opted not too? Why the sudden change of heart to entertain him coming back? And why would would they want Jose with TJ on their roster? Is Indy now the place we run our garbage through? Pure speculative BS.

Hmm, I like Jackson but I definitely don't include the 13 if we're also taking on Diop. His contract is nasty.

That is gross... yes we lose Jose which is amazing and i like Jackson but he doesn't fit with this current core at all. Diop's contract is turrible...
