Heyman: Downs, Frasor AND Marcum might be on the market

source: #bluejays a possible rare pitching seller: i.e. frasor, downs, marcum. romero proly "untouchable" tho.

Not a bad idea, IMO...with several teams (the O's with Millwood, A's with Sheets) appearing likely to hang on to their veteran pitchers, Marcum could command a pretty serious bounty.

Makes sense. Go buy a stud bat at a corner infield position and lets take a run at this thing.

Take a run at the playoffs, you mean? We wouldn't be trading them for immediate production, we'd be trading them for prospects.

We need an infusion of position-player prospects, particularly on the left side of the infield.

I'd hate to see Marcum go, because he's a good pitcher, but we've got pitching aplenty and we're not competing, so we might as well take a shot at some talent for later.

Mets want a starter. I want Wilmer Flores.

Not sure Jon Heyman is much of an insider, but what he wrote there makes sense.

If AA can get similar value as in his previous deals involving Halladay and League then I'd agree to sell off the vets at their peak. Seems to have a nose for a good deal...

Why not? You think we're going to magically morph into a 95-win team without moving him?

Downs and Frasor I get and have no problems with, but we have to hang on to Marcum, he has been so good this year. Marcum and Romero have been our two best starting pitchers imo, and two guys that can be the foundation of our starting rotation for years to come

MLBtr mentioned a really interesting match: Marcum to the Brewers, for Brett Lawrie. Not a trade rumour, just an idea that makes a fair amount of sense.

I'd easily do that trade for Marcum but letting Brett Cecil go wouldn't be easy. Would love to have a homegrown Canadian star though

Yeah, I might not do it for Cecil; he's young and we have many years of control left. Marcum, very likely.

I wouldn't trade Marcum straight up for Lawrie. He still has 2 years left of control and I am sure the Jays can buy off a couple of his free agent years. Lawrie is hitting well for a 20 year old in AA but he still is a future LF and does his bat play as well there as it does at 2B or 3B. Blue Jays might have pitching depth right now but we should know from past experiences that it could disappear in an instance.

As much as I would love to get Lawrie and slot him in at 3B, it would really sting to lose Marcum for a guy we missed in 2008 by just one lousy pick.

I wouldn't give up Marcum for just Lawrie...no way. Lawrie isn't a good defender in the infield. He can barely play 2B, so I'm not sure why anyone thinks he could stick at 3B. Most people have him penciled in for the outfield.

Met, give us some 3B targets if you've got any ideas. I'll assume the hugest of the huge are off the table (Alvarez, Dominguez, Moustakas types) and for lots of reasons certain teams won't be interested, which makes the list smaller. I mentioned Flores a while ago, who's on the Mets and, at least at the time, was having a very solid season for a very young kid at A ball. That's just me with the top 100 prospects and the standings, so I'd be very curious if anyone out there with a little more prospect knowledge had some guys they'd target or think are feasible. I remember in my look the other guy I almost mentioned was Sano for the Twins, but he signed a very large deal and is like 4 years-old so that one seemed pretty unlikely, but they were hyping as a potential Miggy quality guy, just have to wait 5-6 years to find out.

Or if not 3B, then in general, but give us your dream guys, within some margin of sanity. Or maybe you think we're all crazy anyway.

3B isn't a position that is usually stacked in the minors. Honestly, unless you're thinking about re-claiming Gordon I dont see much near-ready talent you can acquire. Moustakas is the best 3B prospect right now but he may not even stick at 3B apparently (and KC obv. wont trade him). Matt Gamel is horrible defensively, previously hyped guys like Vitters/Dominguez are both stagnating big time (not really impressed with either). Flores is intriguing but he's a guy that needs some more time.

Current 3rd round pick Chris Hawkins is hitting really well right now and he's got quite a bit of upside. He's going to take a while being a recently drafted HS kid but him and Kellen Sweeney are both potential impact bats at 3B.

Not sure why you think this. He is said to have strong arm but only average range, meaning 3B is a much better fit for him anyway because it requires less range and more arm strength. But most importantly, his bat is so good that you don't even ask questions about defense.
