Please don't rush to trade Jefferson

Post#1 » by shrink » Wed Jun 23, 2010 9:56 pm

I really hope that David Kahn is not feeling so much pressure to make his mark this summer that he is willing to trade Jefferson cheap.

With teams possibly focused on his injury and contract, rather than his elite low-post production, I think he would almost certainly have more trade value at the trade deadline, over two years since his injury. At a minimum, he's closer to the end of his contract.

Sadly, I don't see any way Al is on the team after the draft.

Yep, based on pure talent, Jefferson > Love. Adding in money, injury history, age, and fit, though, and Love >>>>>> Jefferson.

Quality over Quantity....

Also what Injury History? We haven't even shown that AJ is gonna be worse, until u prove that you can't say he has an injury history.

If we draft favors, there is no way jefferson is on the team past the draft. You rather keep love on the bench and reduce his minutes further in order get favors what.. like 15-20 mpg. Not to mention, everyone in the league will know its coming.

Unfortunately, He doesn't fit what they want to do plain and simple. Khan has said that it would take a great deal to move him.

That adage doesn't really apply to this situation because they're the same "quantity." It also doesn't really apply here, because despite his talent, Jefferson was a lower quality player than Love this past season (you can assume that that will change once Jefferson is 100% healthy, but there's no guarantee).

Edit:

Also, if we do become a running team, Al's talents will never be fully used here, so any difference in talent between Al and Love is negated.

Also what Injury History? We haven't even shown that AJ is gonna be worse, until u prove that you can't say he has an injury history.

Any injuries at all contribute to an "injury history." Both Al and Love have one, but Al's is more extensive (with his past ankle injuries and the busted knee).

I will say this about Al, that I can't say about Love, He Wanted to be here and worked his butt of despite his physical limitations. Love is more likely to jump ship when he gets the chance and go to Cali.

Things may change now that he would be starting and hopefully winning at a higher clip...
If the trade does go down and Love goes for 30mpg... what will it take for us to forget about Al all together.. 17/14/5 assists via outlet passes to George and Favors.

The "injury concern" comments are unwarranted. He hasn't had ankle problems since being traded here, and aside from the freak knee injury, which he returned extremely early from, he has been healthy as a Wolf.

He was obviously a step slow last season, which was to be expected, but he still managed to play 76 games without any knee (or ankle) concerns.

What? Love was dying to come here. You're thinking of Mayo.

But if we don't let Love get the chance to be a full-time starter, he won't to be here.

I thought I'd spare another thread, but it says here we tried to trade Jefferson merely to swap spots with NJ

Meanwhile, here’s one thing Rod Thorn knows:

“It would be so much easier for us if free agency was before the draft,” he said. “Then you’d have some idea what you can and cannot get. So as far as drafting goes, you have to just go for the best guy for us.”

We’re told that he’s getting offers that might be attractive in any other era – Al Jefferson for basically nothing, as long as they swap spots – but there’s no way he can do that without blowing up his cap space.

I would feel a lot better if there was ONE rumor going around where we are the rapist, not the raped.

Timberwolves' David Kahn refutes trade reports involving Al Jefferson

A day before the NBA draft, more trade reports are surfacing about Minnesota Timberwolves forward Al Jefferson, but Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn denied that a trade involving the team's leading scorer is imminent.

Kahn refuted a report today that the Wolves have offered Jefferson in three separate deals — to Indiana for forward Troy Murphy, to Memphis for forward Zach Randolph and to Detroit for swingman Tayshaun Prince.

Jefferson, who led the Wolves in scoring last season with 17.1 points per game, has been the subject of trade rumors leading up to Thursday night's draft.

"Memphis asked us about Zach and we said no," Kahn said this afternoon in a text message to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "And I have not spoken with Detroit."

Kahn had a more emphatic response about the alleged Murphy deal.

"Murphy is yet another in a long line of desperation Hail Mary's put out by Indiana on all our players," Kahn said.

On Tuesday, Kahn moved quickly to dispel rumors that he was considering trading Wolves point guard Jonny Flynn to Indiana in exchange for the Pacers' first-round pick, No. 10 overall, in Thursday night's draft. Kahn said the Pacers made the offer last week but he turned it down.

I guess I am projecting too much in regards to his role last season... If memory serves, I do think I said the exact same thing about love vs. mayo :)
