I don't really think this is a bad trade, but my question is, what is his role going to be on the team? How does this affect DeMar DeRozan? Does DeRozan now move to the SF spot, or does he, in fact, get traded altogether?

For the most part, I like Rudy Fernandez. But I just don't see a fit for him here with DeRozan and Weems taking a lot of the SG time, and Belinelli getting the remaining few minutes. And I think he plays too similarly with Belinelli, although he may be a bit more polished.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

I would do this trade if at our pick Henry and George are both gone. I like both of these guys more than Rudy but after them Rudy is probably our best bet.

To add this is the kind of move that Colaneglo's tenure here will be known for. Rudy would be just good enough on our roster and comparative to our young wings that he'd likely start and be productive. However not productive enough to a) push a team into a new bracket of competition b) solidify a niche role that would be essential to any legit starting unit or c) truly justify depriving younger talent from growing into a similar role with potentially higher pay off.

Not sure what his contract is like but worst case scenario in these situations is he plays well enough that you almost feel obligated to offer him a new contract (read: starters raise), especially if a Derozan or Weems don't pan out underneith him in the rotation. You overrate him because what he has done for your weak roster and before you know it you're paying mediocre talent to somehow get you over the hump, which is exactly what they cannot do and what makes them mediocre.

Colangelo needs to be careful here.

If as suggested we can swing Wilson Chandler, Id be 100% for this.

BC has to make bigger deals than this though, this is bush league compared to picking up some quality players.

Belinelli is expiring. He can be moved with our other expirings.

And Rudy is way more polished than Marco.

I am suprised at the reaction to the suggested trade. Rudy Fernandez for the difference between the 13th and 22th pick is actually good value. The draft is always a total crap shoot after the top 6-7 picks..

These are the last 10 players drafted 13th overall in the NBA Draft.

Julian Wright
Thabo Sefolasha
Brandon Rush
Tyler Hansborough
Courntey Alexander
Marcus Haislip
Marcus Banks
Sebastian Telfair
Sean May
Richard Jefferson

Of the bunch, Jefferson is the only one that has had a career thats noteworthy.....most of them are scrubs. Thats 1 impact player out of 10 = 10% chance of drafting anything special. Fans get to enamoured with the unknown this time of the year.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

I for one have always been high on Sefolosha. IMO he's exactly what we need in terms of perimeter de. That guy shuts people down. I was pissed that BC didn't get him when he was available. OKC got him for next to nothing.

I agree you get value in this deal. But you can get value by signing Iverson to a contract as well. That doesn't necessarily make it a wise move. You know? When it comes to the draft though, this can totally work out as long as you know what you're getting/doing at 22. Draft if a crap shoot, but I don't think it's a coincidence that reputable organizations routinely draft well.

I like that better.

Honestly, I don't want Rudy. I want to give the wing minutes to DeRozan and Weems.

Maybe we could make the trade, then move #22 with cash for a late teen pick for Avery Bradley.

We need his explosiveness and quickness at the point.

I agree with your posts I.D. ......solid posts.

Indeed, Rudy may in fact upgrade the roster. But in terms of long term vision and direction of the team, this move really does nothing.

This teams needs a culture change from the ground up. Raptors have a couple of young pieces. BC needs to understand, that its important to surround those young pieces (DD/Weems) with players that compliment them/or help them improve as players.

Rudy is an upgrade (over Beli) ... .. but does this move do anything in terms of the team's direction?(Unless he's planning other moves)

Rudy will demand minutes... is it worth it though? .. this rumour is actually realistic ..something BC would do. I won't be surprised if it happens.
Prediction
Spurs in 7. Parker MVP. Lebron 6-17fg, 18pt, 8reb, 5 asst in game 7 LOSS.

Awful trade. =\

Colangelo should off himself if this goes down.
