The lakers couldve signed all three if kobe wouldve restructed his contract! thats what a true leader would do, in the nfl peyton manning did that and his team was able to keep good players and sign new players. kobe was just selfsish.

Lakers are still profitable, Kobe's contract isn't the issue.

In order

1. Miller - Ideal option, but would likely take the full MLE which would severly limit us upgrading the PG and third string big positions. We get him we might end up with a resigned Shannon Brown as our backup PG.

2. Bell - Great option, would likely come to play for the vet min which would leave us part of the MLE to add another bench player.

3. Tmac - Something about him says "bad mojo" to me. I'd avoid signing him even at the vet min.

NO!, the problem is having scrubs like Vujabrick/Walton making $5mill/yr and not doing a dam thing to earn that money since signing their contract.

Lakers don't have capspace to absorb salary though, also our pick isn't that high in the 2nd round.

Well Sasha earned his with those 2 free throws he made in game 7 and he did played better than Farmar and Brwon and that Boston series. Atleast Sasha's contracts ends sooner than Luke's does.

Different sports, different cap rules, Kobe could restructure his contract to the vet min next year, and the MLE would still be the only amount available to them. But hey I guess it's fun talking about stuff you have no idea about.

To be honest, when i first heard that Raja bell and the lakers had mutual interest, i just couldnt believe. I thought about it and i thought it would do nothing for our team. But now looking around at some information on raja, i guess he would be a pretty good fit. Can knock down that 3 consistently off of our bench, and is a great defender. I will be all for it, then what do we do with brown and sasha? And is brown opting out or not?

Mike Miller - 2.5 million
Raja Bell - 1.5 million

And bring back Fisher (2 mill), Brown (1.5 mill), and Powell and Mbenga (for the minimum).

These numbers can happen folks ... that's kind of scary for everyone else.

I tell you what, if LBJ doesn't come here, he had better go somewhere else where they have more good players because if the Lakers pull off Miller, Bell, and Livingston, all for the 5.5 MLE, Kupchak can sleep very easy. His only task would be dumping Vujacic's contract on a team with space.

No way Miller comes here for 2 years at only 2.5 mil. He will be looking for a contract similar to Ron's. The guy will get the MLE tossed at him. I can see Boston or Miami being one of those teams. Perhaps if Chicago moves Hinrich they would pursue Miller for the MLE with a starting roll.

You can't use your MLE if you have any cap space whasoever ... so NO Chicago and NO Miami

... Boston???? He ain't going to Boston after resigning Ray Allen (which they will do). If Ray Allen is shown the door (small likelihood), then Miller could be signed for MLE, but they will choose Ray Allen over Miller (as they should).

Please give me some more [WINNING] teams that you think will throw him the MLE ...

... as far as I can tell there aren't any.

Phil Jackson retires and Byron Scott is hired we might be seeing a deal for Chris Paul, to give the Lakers quite the team:

PG- Chris Paul, Derek Fisher
SG- Kobe Bryant, Raja Bell
SF- Ron Artest, veteran min
PF- Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom
C- Emeka Okafor

No one said anything about Walton. I just don't count him on the roster.

It's not far-fetched at all considering the terrible deals I've seen offered for Paul.

Its all about money/contracts. The Lakers can't spend anymore. Whoever gets CP3 are going to have to eat NO's giant crap contracts, that's not going to be the Lakers. My money is on Dallas, they have the money and the world's greatest contact (Erica's deal that can be cancelled).

No it doesn't have to do with money/contracts in the sense that those workout well.

The Lakers are looking at raising salary by 8m if they make the deal. That leaves them at 89.9m with Brown gone. Re-sign Fisher, sign Raja Bell and call it a day at around the same rate as last year.

It's worth it really to get literally the 2nd best PG in the league in his prime. We're talking about a franchise player plus an overpaid yet solid C. That's a deal.

All two year deals:
Fisher for 2, Miller for 2.5, Bell for 1.5.

If Fisher is making 2 mill and Bell is at 1.5, then Shannon Brown should feel lucky to get a new 2 year deal worth 3 million.

If he aint prepared for what teams will offer him then he shouldn't opt out.

If he doesn't like 1.5 mill then he can kick rocks --- with Bell, Brown is not a necessity, although he (Brown) can be a great weapon to have at the end of your bench for 1.5 million.

So yeah I do think that if Brown opts out he could get a few 2 year, 2 million dollar per offers from teams but from us it'll be 1.5 mill .... the way Buss and Kupchak will see it .... if he wanted 2 million he shouldn't have opted out.

All this talk about the Lakers not using the MLE got me thinking there is a cheap way of filling the Lakers needs without spending the MLE. This scenario has Brown, Farmar, Benga, Powell and, Morrison all leaving.
And Phil returning for 1 more year. First sign Fisher to a 2yr 4 million dollar contract, second sign Bell for the minimum, third sign Livingston to the minimum he can get, fourth sign Mahinmi to replace Powell with the minimum he can get, six and seven draft a perimeter player with 43rd pick and sign and draft a few young big men to compete for Benga's old spot.
2010-2011 Lakers Roster
PG. Fisher, Livingston, Rookie
SG. Kobe, Raja, Sasha
SF. Artest, Walton
PF. Pau, Lamar, Mahinmi
C. Bynum, Young C
Total salaries added $5,854,510
Total payroll for 2010-2011 $87,582,712
Total payroll lower by $3,794.601 from 2009-2010
I think this is a very likely scenario that could happen in the summer. Basically the Lakers spend nearly the amount of the MLE but never use the MLE. All contracts are minimums and rookie contracts except for Fisher.
