"+/-" - Official Mock Draft Thread

Post#1 » by Breakdown777 » Sat Jun 19, 2010 6:58 pm

Rules:

1. Fill out a draft in the draft simulater for the first round - post the mock ID in this thread by Noon on Thursday.
2. Every correct pick is worth 5 points
3. Every incorrect pick is worth negative points:
(If the guy you picked to go 6 goes 11, then your score is the difference, which would be -5)
(If the guy you picked to go 16 goes 12, then your score is the difference, which would be -4)
(If the guy you picked to go 25 ends up going 41, your score would be -16)
(If a guy goes 24 and he is not in your mock, then the score is 24-30 = -6)

Have fun, and good luck! Hopefully KAHN doesn't bite the big one! Gopherit might need to bring back the old Avatar if he does.

So like 5 points for every correct pick and -1 point for every slot you were off on a player?

Your mock

1.wall
2.turner
3.favors
4.johnson
5.monroe
6.cousins

Actual

1.Wall
2.Cousins
3.Turner
4.Favors
5.Monroe
6.Johnson

for +5, -4, -1,-1, +5, -2, total of 2 points through those picks? Just a suggestion

Maybe to keep it neat and simple everyone should use the RealGM draft simulator and copy their link.

Just first round or second round too?

I'm thinking just 1st round. Good suggestion with the simulater. How do we handle the selling/trading of picks? Just assume it doesn't matter and go with what player gets taken there?

For example:
25 MEM - Ebanks
not because I think MEM takes Ebanks, but because I think TOR buys this pick and takes Ebanks?
No bonus points. No extra penalty. Just +/- based on predicted and actual draft position.

If you choose a player that isn't drafted in the first round, do we subract into the 2nd round, or subract like 5 points?

1. I think we should only pay attention to the players picked, not the teams picking.
2. Subtract how ever many spots they fall. Not sure how to total if theres a guy in the 1st you didn't have in your mock though.

I'm thinking we can just subract into the 2nd round selections.
We may not think ORL or WAS will take Willie Warren, but you could still put him there because you know if he drops into the 2nd he won't drop far.
If there is someone you are high on, odds are someone else is too (think Dejaun Blair), so the scores would probably even out in that regard. Like I was saying earlier, it'd probably be best to reverve spots 26-30 on players you know shouldn't drop far, as opposed to who trying to figure out who a team might reach for (Rodrique Bouoblee or whatever his name is comes to mind).
Even if there is a George Hill in the draft, and he lowers everyone's score, it's the same for everyone so it shouldn't matter. OR we could do something like subtracting the two lowest scores from everyone score, but i'm just getting too complicated again.

Okay, how does this sound for the rules?:

1. Fill out a draft in the draft simulater for the first round - post the link in this thread by Noon on Thursday.
2. Every correct pick is worth 5 points
3. Every incorrect pick is worth negative points:
(If the guy you picked to go 6 goes 11, then your score is the difference, which would be -5)
(If the guy you picked to go 16 goes 12, then your score is the difference, which would be -4)
(If the guy you picked to go 25 ends up going 41, your score would be -16)
(If a guy goes 24 and he is not in your mock, then the score is 24-30 = -6) ~ This one is the most open to suggestion, I'd think. I'm thinking if a player gets drafted out of left field whom no one is expecting, just deducting the number of picks in the round from the place the suprise pick is taken would most likely give everyone the same negative score. (or I guess a score of 0 could be awarded, since giving everyone 0 is the same as giving everyone -6, but there is a margin of error involved if even one person has him in their mock.

If there is anything you would like to edit, just quote this post and bold what you think a better suggestion would be. Good Luck!

so this thread is already down to page two. It didn't sound like many people were willing.
Do I:
A.) Bump this so more people see it during the week?
B.) Start a new thread (in which I'm giving 30 minutes before it gets locked due to redundancy)
C.) Play with whomever cares enough to read this thread again.
D.) Start an "official draft +/- thread", or ask to merge the two together.
F.) Give up entirely and take up a new hobby, like basket-weaving or Cuponk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCselFWrqm0.

I wanted Seraphin as well and needed like 5 minutes to find him. Also Pondexter is out of my 1st round because I didn't find him.
