Goal of the Tournament shortlist

Post#1 » by britblazerdude » Thu Jun 24, 2010 7:22 pm

I figured it's now time to start compiling our nominees for a final "goal of the tournament" poll...here's what I have put together so far and feel welcome to add.

Özil vs Ghana
Donovan vs. Algeria
Honda vs. Denmark
Holman vs. Serbia
Endo vs. Denmark
Maicon vs. North Korea
Tshabalala vs. Mexico
David Villa vs. Honduras (first goal)
Fabiano vs. Ivory Coast (Yes, the double-hand-ball)
Quagliarella vs. Slovakia
Donovan vs. Slovenia
Suarez vs. South Korea (Second goal)
Heinze vs. Nigeria
Forlan vs. Germany
Iniesta vs. Netherlands
Forlan vs. Holland
Von Bronkhorst vs. Uruguay

Di Natale had a great goal against Slovakia today.

I would add Donovan versus Slovenia, and Fabiano versus CIV (1st goal).

Donovan against Algeria? You sure about that? I understand it's importance but it's not goal of the tournament candidate.

Holman from yesterday was dirty.

But yeah, Maicon's the best so far.

Am I the only who thinks that Maicon's goal was a cross?

Well you said in your post why it's on the goal of the tournament list.

Importance shouldn't really count here IMO, I mean it was a REBOUND.

By saying that, I won't be surprised if it wins. Set up the poll!!!!

The importance SHOULD count. Goal of the last WC was Grosso's against Germany IMO, and it's because of the importance of the goal.

However I do agree that Donovan's is lacking as it wasn't even in the knockout stage.

The Villa goal was a deflection.

I liked Ji-Sung Park's goal in the first round. And the third Japanese goal yesterday, Hondo's assist was superb.

I think Bradley's goal (especially the finish) against Slovenia was better than any of Donovan's goals, even as important as Donovan's goal against Algeria. As for goal of the tournament I'd say Ronaldo's weird one against North Korea.

He planned it, like what Kerlon always does.

Honestly I would take about 5-6 of Messi's misses over most of the goals in the tourny.

Quagliarella vs. Slovakia
Özil vs Ghana
Honda vs. Denmark
Endo vs. Denmark

...are my favs. I think my favorite goal is probably the Ozil goal so far. Both those Japanese goals were pure nasty too. Its to bad Quagliarella's goal aint gonna matter for crap cause it was a pretty nice goal.

Forgot about Heinze's wicked header against Nigeria. That was perfect pace and placement off a corner.

And Suarez's game winner was phenomenal.

As of now, suarez's has my vote. That is a type of shot that many strikers will attempt, but might never make.

Yeah that Suarez goal was great, a great curler shot. Sucks Korea lost.

Earlier I said Di Natale I meant Quagriale (got their names mixed up), Di Natale's goal was basically a tap in.
