How the dominoes fall

Post#1 » by pacersrule08 » Thu Jun 24, 2010 8:55 pm

So many variables, so little time.

With the NBA Draft fast approaching, the Pacers are still very much in pursuit of a point guard. Other than two Twitter-generated posts involving Oklahoma City's Eric Maynor and Chicago's Kirk Hinrich, the rumor mill is unusually quiet.

Still, the league-wide presumption is when the Pacers announce the No. 10 pick, they won't be introducing their own player but rather a prospect headed elsewhere.

With so much uncertainty within the top nine picks it's difficult to project who might be available when it's time for the Pacers to make the call.

"It's according to who's there," said team President Larry Bird. "There's some talent, no question about that. But we'd like to get someone that could step right in and play for us.

"This is a strange draft. They're all over the board. There's some big guys there that are pretty good, there's a few wings. Obviously we're looking for point guards and there's not a lot in the draft. If we do get a point guard it'd probably be a player or it could possibly be our pick. There's a lot of things on the board we're looking at."

And the Pacers' options will depend upon how the dominoes fall in front of them.

Only guy I might keep if I were Bird is Monroe. I think he is the most skilled bigman in the draft. The problem is his ceiling isn't as high as some other big men like Favors n Cousins. However, I'de be perfectly fine with addding a guy like Monroe. I think he impacts the team quicker and I think he is going to be the 2nd/3rd best bigman in this draft. I don't think the Jazz pass on him though Monroe so him going to the Pacers is really irrellivant.

I think Udoh will be the pick, and he will go to either the Wolves or the Thunder.

wishful prediction...

expiring contract to gs for ellis & #6 (monroe)

and/or

#10 for maynor, # 18 (bledose) & # 21 (orton)

not really wishing for orton and i'd take hayward if available @ 18 or 21 but he's likely the thunder target if they make this trade. hayward would get to wear the pacers cap for a minute.

really, would probably just want to the first part of this and keep hayward... ellis, monroe, and hayward would be a coup. pick up another pg or two in the second round.
