Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread: Nets Select Derrick Favors
Trash.
Rod can only redeem himself by getting two very early 2nds.
It's not that James is bad. It's that he's likely a 8th to 10th man rotation guy instead of the high upside player a 12 win team should have taken.
You can replace his production with a very, very, very cheap NBA vet.

Honestly my issue isn't Damion Jones vs some of the other options (did not watch these guys enough to fairly judge). But when teams are buying picks for cash, they really had to give up pick #31 to move up from 27 to 24?

I know, right? We couldn't have at the most given up like the Miami 2nd rounder? I mean the 31st pick is too valuable to only move up 3 ****in spots IMO

Well, that means Deng is going to Orlando, with the Hammer and Pietrus going to Chicago.

Looks like it's official...solid guy. Like I said, if there's no other deals made, I smell "Avery" with this pick.

no its not...because we're probably not looking to sign any more than two rookies...

Sigh...
Well, after I have overreacted, I have to say, let's see how this pans out, maybe we'll buy or trade for an early second rounder or two and get at least one of Armon Johnson, Mikhail Torrance, Terrico White or Hobson.
Probably not though, we'll probably buy a pick and get a guy like Lance Stephenson or Gani Lawal.

In all seriousness now that I think about it... Who would you draft at the #31?

I hear ya...maybe you want more of upside like VC4p said at that pick, instead of a guaranteed 8th man at best for his career...but he probably is more NBA ready now...whatever

Mikhail Torrance, Armon Johnson, Terrico White, Darrington Hobson, let alone Dominique Jones went one freakin' pick after Damion James.
Hell, I really did not like Jordan Crawford, but I would have rather taken the risk on him then goining for the tough practice player in Damion James...

I don't know why, as of now we only have 8 players under contract (not counting Dooling).

ESPN compared him to James Posey...I like his toughness...as a Big 12 guy I like this pick better than most it seems like...won't ever be a starter but a solid bench guy who can get on the court for our team...should be able to play some minutes early.

Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread: Nets Select Derrick Favors
The worst part about this is two sided.
If you strike out in FA, you want those high upside young guys, so hopefully one of the later ones pans out to a steal.
If you do well in FA, you have to fill out a bench, so you want those high upside young guys with the later picks, so hopefully one of them pans out and you have a big minute sixth man or 5th best starter for the long term so you don't have to spend the MLE on over the hill has beens each year, rinse and repeat...
Or they become trade assets to acquire a player like that or a high pick when you don't have access to one because your record was so good.
Foolish.
E tried to steer me in the direction that Rod has done well over the years drafting, but unless I eat my words and James becomes the next Millsap and all "my guys" become forgetable busts, this is another example of him being a terrible drafter with later picks when no brainers don't fall to him.
He has no creativity and no balls. No sight of the bigger picture, he sees the now and that's it.
Again, this maybe very premature because we may buy a second or two and he'll be telling me, "I told you so, calm down, it's not over, stop overreacting.", but me, Yi have little faith...

I really hate this. Why can't we draft a player who can shoot?

Still no Whiteside... I guess Miami didn't want to "risk" it given what happened with Beasley.
