Are there people who really think they'd just say "guess what Ted, we traded Gil today!" like it was a big surprise party with balloons and strudel? That's just not how it works.

Arenas is untouchable....ernie should be fired on the spot if he isn't bringing in a two way starter allstar 27 years old.
Please ted fire ernie now hold onto arenas at least one more year and veto anything ernie does with arenas. Arenas is three notches above caron..haywood and jamison. He is the hidden engine of the wizards. Don't trust grunfeld..he lucked into arenas and grunfeld doesn't understand hidden dynamics of what it took to gain the respect of the immature wizards. The worst thing leonsis can do now is get rid of arenas. Leonsis Grunfeld's time to go is now.
If we are going to get a player to play with wall and arenas it should be hedo turkoglu. Raptors don't even want him.

Leonsis would give EG an extension if he was able to pull off an Arenas for VC trade. But it won't happen, because it would be fiscal vinsanity for Orlando.

Hidden engine? What?

Give an extensions for trading an under 2nd team all nba player..meaning he was a top ten player. Extension for trading a player who was top five scorer in entire nba. Lmao.

Maybe Ernie knows he's gonna get canned so he's tanking it? :dontknow:

Hopefully, at least.

I'm just going to pretend we got the 5th overall pick and somehow managed to fleece the GM who held the 1st pick and were able to get Hinrich, Booker, and Seraphin along with the 1st overall pick.

If we are going to rebuild right then we need to get rid of EG. This draft is proof that he isnt the man for the job.

I know the draft isnt all the way over, but i cracked open a bottle of cheap champagne at 9AM when John Wall was announced, i think i made it to #42 before i dozed off. I waited around hoping we would sneak into the top 12 with what we had - nope. Presti managed to get Aldrich with 18 and 26. Surely we could have traded 17 and 30 or 35 and gotten higher for a rotation player. Pritchard is a lame duck GM and he still swung Martell Webster for 16 (Luke Babbitt).

I'm all for firing EG and hiring KP.

My personal fantasy of choice is that we got Wall, Seraphin, and Booker with the 1st, 30th, and 35th picks respectively, and Hinrich has actually been on our team all along. It's funny, that that's just about where we are now, but doing it that way would make me feel so much better about how the draft went.

Mike Jones: Seraphin, who is here at MSG and is described by scouts as similar to Nene, said the Wizards scouted him often in France.

 AHA, Ernie & Tapscott taking their classic "scouting" junkets to Europe, I found this hilarious.

i like the fact that ernie finally - FINALLY - had a near perfect draft and we're tearing him a new one :(

Maybe we could have done more (like say, traded Nick Young for more assets) but everything we did filled LONG-standing needs, including the Hinrich trade.

Fact is, we do *not* need cap space right away - Melo and Durant aren't coming (and I don't really want Melo), and nobody else is worth it. We *do* need size, rebounding, and leadership. Guess who provides that?

In other drafts, Ernie would have drafted some soft jumpshooting big or some undersized no defense guard - this time he drafted rebounding hustle bigs. He's learned, at least a little bit. Or at least Ted's telling him what to do.

Now, if he doesn't trade for Vince Carter, then I'm fine with him finishing out the season.

Great take.

Seraphin, Booker and NDiaye are all mean, physical, athletic defensive bigs. Doesn't that complement the finesse of Wall, Arenas, Blatche and McGee? Grunfeld added size and toughness to the front court after solidifying the backcourt with the Hinrich trade.

G: Wall/Arenas/Hinrich/Young/Ross
SF: Thornton
PF: Blatche/Booker
C: McGee/Seraphin/Ndiaye

And there's STILL somewhere around $13M in cap space.

I've got nothing new here, but maybe this thread can get over 100 pages before the mods get back.

Oh, to stay on topic, "EG must go, blah, blah, blah,"

 Thanks for the great quotes from the INsider Rico.

Wizards faithful, you should be rejoicing that you don't have a GM throwing money around like a drunken sailor on liberty. At some point the other teams, sated on fattening, overstuffed free agents, will have to forgo some of the solid players left on the outside looking in, and Ernest will swoop them up just as surely as an eagle catching its prey!

As is the norm, many of you will bellyache and moan that we missed out on this free agent or that and you will be guilty of taking your eyes off the ultimate prize--assembling a team that will vie for an NBA title. Ernest Grunfeld is in the process of assembling that team and, at a time and place of his choosing, will grab a free agent critical to that ultimate goal.

Long-term success requires patience, mental acuity and uncommon restraint. Based on his recent acquisitions (again, he's finally free to make the proper decisions), it goes without saying that Ernest has those qualities in spades.

In Grunfeld We Trust!!

Mr....Firefly, is it?

I can assure you that I speak the truth about Ernest Grunfeld's basketball acumen. No hyperbole is needed or intended when examining the steps he has undertaken in such a short time to change the direction of our beloved Washington Wizards.

He has banished from the team a bunch of aged, cuddly pooches (kept past their usefulness by a doting owner (RIP)) and replaced them with, by all reliable accounts, young tigers--Wall, Seraphin, Booker, and N'Diaye. You will come to know them well in time.

We're on the precipice of a bold, new era in which our GM is fearlessly charting the course to franchise greatness. Give way, naysayers, and let the man do what, at least for now, is a thankless job. No doubt, once the wins start piling up, the bandwagoners will want to hitch a ride and he will most graciously accept you aboard despite your unkind words.

Enjoy the fireworks this weekend and know that our eventual championship celebration will be every bit as spectacular!

OK - I'll add to that.

Sam Presti still available.

We still need a real GM

Hint, hint, Teddy

clos- OK, assuming Presti to the Nets is a done deal, who can we get to replace Ernie 'Wes' Grunfeld?

We already have our EG replacement.

His name is Theodore Leonsis.
