Question from Indiana about Mike Conley Jr.
Hello Memphis fans!
We are starving for a PG here in Indiana, and I like our local native Mike Conley Jr as a possible acquisition, and have for a long time.
I know he isn't the most popular player with you guys, so I am wondering if he might be available in a deal. If so, what exactly do you guys see as his value, and what are your needs currently after this draft?
Even if our somewhat limited roster doesn't have anything you like, tell me some other players in the league that are somewhat realistic targets for the Grizzlies. I am trying to come up with a scenario that makes sense to all parties. for a legitimate trade idea to get Conley to Indianapolis.
Would Memphis take Brandon Rush for Mike Conley straight up? If not, give me some ideas on what we can put together for you that makes sense.

He's available, but it has to be for an upgrade at PG.
No need for a SG with all the swingmen on the team.

How about a 3 way sign and trade involving Charlotte?
Ray Felton to Memphis
TJ Ford to Charlotte
Mike Conley to Indiana
Is that an upgrade for Memphis? I don't know....

I would like any idea that included a Paul George and Xavier Henry swap.
Memphis recieves:
Paul George
Future #1 protected pick
Indiana receives:
Xavier Henry
Mike Conley Jr.

That´s horrible for us. Henry is a better player on a better contract (you can´t argue with that

If we keep Gay, I would target a defensive minded PG with good range. Maybe a Earl Watson kind of player, but I can´t think in anyone right now.

BarbaGrizz,
I don't think it's that bad actually. We cut our losses with Conley who seems not to be panning out as the guard we thought he should be. I actually think George has a higher ceiling to improve than Henry. The trade I mentioned seems to be fair. George has a higher contract than Henry and a top 5 protected pick wouldn't be that bad. It gives us our pick back for another draft.

I see your point. Maybe it´s a fair value after all, but I just don´t get why Paul George is being so talked about. I never heard about him prior to ten day before the draft.

BarbaGrizz,
Maybe it is the same effect as the Memphis Tigers, we were not winning as we were accustomed to so the media didn't make a big deal about it. George played for Fresno St. I live in Cali now and never heard of this guy until the draft as well. It was the workout video I saw and his freak of nature athleticism that impressed me. I really believe he can attack the basket and get to the foul line when needed.
You know, maybe we both are right but if one of us is wrong, for the sake of the team, I hope it's me. The Grizz sure could use a break for a change.

Spirit,
i agree that Conley is in our plans but when our offense somewhat stumbled last year, it was because of point guard play. Conley hasn't showed the ability to be consistent which makes me believe if Portland wanted to make a trade for Conley for Fernandez, they would swap out.

Why would we trade our starting point guard for a guy who wouldn't play over Mayo, Henry, or Brewer?

I believe if Rudy is afforded the same opportunity as Conley that he would be better and he has a better shot so the opponent would have to honor that.

Re: Question from Indiana about Mike Conley Jr.
I don't think the problem for the Grizzlies last year was any particular position. I think it was the really awful offense we got off the bench combined with not enough three point shooting.
Mike may not be a great three point shooter, but he's definitely getting better/more aggressive in that respect.
And overall, the Grizzlies offense was fine last year. It was their defense that hurt them.

Overall, I do believe the Grizz offense was fine, but there were times they had 6 to 7 minutes droughts in scoring even after getting stops. I do believe if our two rookies pan out, there will be some serious matchup problems for other teams. It'll be nice to see the Grizz expose other teams for a change. If there was any possibility of getting Fernandez, I hope the Grizz do it if Mike can't stay consistent.

Re: Question from Indiana about Mike Conley Jr.
There were never any rumors regarding Paul George going to Indiana so when that pick happened I was hoping Indiana had finally traded the pick to the Grizz to acquire Conley. My hopes were of course dashed when we drafted Henry. It is highly unlikely that a trade would be done after the fact.
I personally feel your point guard problem (Indiana) could possibly be solved with either Portland - Andre Miller or Dallas -Jason Kidd. Both guys match TJ Ford's expiring contract and have younger guys they are ready to hand the reins to.

Re: Question from Indiana about Mike Conley Jr.
How is Henry a better player than George? The Grizzlies woulda took George over Henry, except George was already gone. George is a better athlete and shooter. Only way Henry will be better is if George is a bust, which there is a chance, but if there was any way Henry is better than George, Pacers woulda took him. Henry is gonna be a 6th man on a good team or a starting 2 on strugglin team. People are considering George to be as talented as McGrady, His shot, frame, and athleticism are bout the same, but he needs to improve his ball handling.

Re: Question from Indiana about Mike Conley Jr.
How can you honestly flat out say George is going to be better than Henry when neither has played a game yet, and George played at a small school while Henry played at a big college.
I'm not saying that Henry is going to be better since I really don't know but I certainly wouldn't be proclaiming one over the other just yet.

From all I have read, I think Henry is safer choice, what´s just what we need.
