Don't believe the hype. That trade makes no sense.

If Paul can be had by simply taking Okafor, why can't we just offer Smoove/Bibby/Zaza? $3 million immediate savings and 2 contracts that would be 2 years shorter than Okafor's.

Put an end to the Chris Paul rumors. They are under the luxury tax for the foreseeable future after the Peterson trade.

Exactly Paul can't be had so easily. Hornets made some of the best moves of the night by dumping Peterson and getting the 2 lower picks. Filled needs and saved financially.

You can't let bogus rumors torture you into thinking we are missing out on deals that we have no chance of ever completing.

That's what I meant by "simply taking Okafor." Many teams can outdo what ORL is alleged to be offering.

If NO traded Paul for anyone not named James, Durant or Bryant, they'd have to stop printing tickets.

The Hornets don't need anyone to take Okafor anymore.

It's certainly possible that NO trades Paul for Nelson and Carter-but it's not because they need to save money.

actually they do. Shinn was going to sell the team, but Chouest and his group, they made their money off the supplying oil rigs and big oil. Their businesses are in jeopardy right now and it looks like the sale wont go thru. Shinn doesnt have as much money as before and is looking to shed payroll, to be able to sell the team. Sort of like what OKC did when they moved from Seattle. Not saying Orlando gets them, but I can see Paul leaving. They have a reliable Collison, Paul's value is still pretty high, but he also has some injury issues now. Hasnt been able to finish a season for a few years.

The Hornets will be 15-20 million dollars under the cap next year even with Paul and Okafor's contracts. They don't need to trade either of them.

NBA salary cap last year was 57.7 mil, and that was going down. Lets assume it stayed the same. Lets look at who NOH has to pay next year.

Paul - 15.2 mil
Emeka - 11.5
West - 8.2
Songalla - 4.8
Posey - 6.5
wright - 2.8
Peja - 14.2
Collison - 1.3
those alone equal $64.5 million. So how again are they 15-20 million under the cap?

The 2009-2010 season is already over. Clearing cap for next year would mean that you are clearing cap for the summer of 2011.

If VC was included with Emeka moving, say Paul+Emeka+Posey, for Nelson+VC+pietrus or Gortat, that would keep Collison and add an all-star in Nelson, plus a big man and change $36 million in owed money to $18 million. But since we are past the draft, i think this trade died anyways.

ok wait wait.....so how about this:

trade Bibby to Sacramento for a second round pick.

trade Crawford for Paul and Okafor

resign Joe?

or don't resign Joe -> Horford/Josh/Marvin/Evans/Paul?

or trade Josh and Marvin for Bosh -> Horford/Bosh/Evans/Roger Mason(or TMac)/Paul?

does that work?

Paul+Okafor = 26.5M
Crawford = 10M

So you need 16.5M of cap room.
Cap should be at nearly 56M, which means you have to be at 39.5M
You need :
- refuse Joe rights
- refuse Childress rights
- trade 48,693,814 - 39.5 = 9M

It's a simple view, because I think you don't need 9M but less than 9M, because the part over the cap should be adjust with the 125% rule.

So, trading Crawford is enough, you don't need to trade Bibby (or can trade him later if you want).
But you won't re-sign Joe, or even do a sign-&-trade with him.

^ financially it get the NOH what they want, but i really don't know if the Hornets would do it.

maybe a more realistic trade would be Okafor and Collison for Bibby.

it would give the Hornets a payroll cut but keep the value of the team high because they still have Paul, so it will be easier for them to sell the team

Hawks would take on a huge contract but get a promising PG. and if it doesn't work out, maybe trade Okafor for KMart, or Dampier, or Richard Jefferson, or Kirilenko, or Battier and Jeffries

Return to Atlanta Hawks
