Paul George and Danny Granger have been working out together

Post#1 » by greenway84 » Fri Jun 25, 2010 6:39 pm

George has drawn comparisons to Danny Granger and in fact has been working out with the Pacers' star in Los Angeles. They played in the same conference (WAC) and both are represented by agent Mark Bartelstein, who arranged their meeting and workouts.

"I'm extremely happy," George said. "I look at Danny as a bigger brother and mentor to myself. We have been working out and training together out in Los Angeles, so we kind of have a bond, you know, as it is already, so I'm extremely happy to be in this situation and to be with this team and organization, I mean, I just can't wait to start."

I think this excites me more than anything to be honest. Danny and him have the same agent and workout together. That cant be a bad thing...right?

DG lite! That's my new favorite drink. I think they can play alongside one another as well. George at the 3 and Granger at the 4 for small ball, or George at the 2 Granger at the 3. Now all we need is a frickin point guard that can actually create offense for those two and we should see some improvement.

Danny playing the 4 would be a nightmare, it kills his productivity. I expect when they play together it will be as interchangeable 2.5s. Of course this only works if he's half as good as Danny.

Im not big fan of Danny playing the 4 at all. i have to admit that when we played Hibbert, Danny, Jones, Rush and Ford at the same time early in the season when Murphy was out we did some major damage against other teams

Larry and Obie knows Danny can't be the starting 4. The idea could be developing George to play the 2, alongside Danny at the 3. He's a wing player regardless of position so there is a big chance George and Danny would not fight for minutes. Plus, i think i've read it in the chat transcript that George wants to be a shooting guard because that's where he can create match-up problems.
Lance Stephenson could be the back-up scorer from the bench and it seems to me that Rush and Dahntay Jones are the odd men out. Larry might not give up that easily on Rush but he's got higher value than Dahntay in terms of youth and potential. Dahntay who has a longer contract would probably get some interest from the title contenders with his defense.
We really need to purge the wing position to give decent minutes to everybody.

Exactly, I mean does anybody remember two years ago when Dunleavy and Granger played the wings?

We could see that here with George and Granger.

Websites currently list George as a SG/SF.

I could see a wing rotation of

3-Granger/Rush
2-George/Jones

being EXTREMELY productive. I think we're probably going to have to give up Rush in order to get a PG though.

Paul George is a self-proclaimed shooting guard at 6 ft 9. That's pretty damn impressive, if that's his natural position. The Pacers would instantly have the best wing combination at George/Granger..A lot of people think George's ceiling is a mix between a prime T-Mac and Rudy Gay..not bad at all

Yup, if Lebon and Wade are looking to play together, they'd better be sure they have an advantage on the other 3 positions, because they will be in serious troubles otherwise...

I'm hoping that was a joke.

It wouldn't be the NBA Draft without the extreme hyperbole. Can we at least let the guy play a summer league game first? I mean, come on.

S. Jackson, G. Wallace
R. Hamilton, T. Prince
K. Martin, T. Ariza
O. Mayo, R. Gay

I was joking. Pretty hard to compare with other combos when George hasn't even played one NBA game yet...

That list however doesn't really impress me. It is not unthinkable that we could have one of the better combos at swing. There's nothing wrong with a bit of speculation.
