Guards to pair with Wes Johnson?

Post#1 » by Esohny » Sat Jun 26, 2010 4:13 am

Here's my sorta possible list of guards we might be able to go after to pair on the wing with Wes Johnson.

Most Attainable Veterans (both available for mostly cap relief supposedly):
Iguodala
Monta Ellis

Young guards who might be attainable (on rookie contracts, group includes both young vets and rookies):
Eric Gordon
James Harden
Xavier Henry(depends on if they want him to replace Gay at SF)
James Anderson

Free Agents:
Joe Johnson (probably in a S&T...likely a long shot, and he'll probably start his decline before the end of his deal)

Any of these guys look attractive? Anybody else not on the list?

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Monta Ellis because I think our coaching staff would really put him on a short leash. The guy is ridiculously talented but Don Nelson just lets him do anything because he's in love with the guy. He played 48 minutes basically every single game.

07-08 he averaged 20/5/4 while shooting 53% from the field and committing 2.1 turnovers. That's the Monta Ellis I want.

Iggy is my first thought. We should see if we can do something with them.

If we float Iggy for Brewer/Webster+Pekovic see what they say. (I love Brewer so this hurts to offer)

They get a defensive shooter to put next to Turner, they get a physical post to offset Hawes and they get instant cap relief. We use our depth and cap space to bring in a good player.

Iggy carries a 41% on jumpers. That is a scary number. He also carries +5.2 +/- PER and EFG 512 at the SG spot.

Monta is even worse with a .401 on his jumper and only a 0.1 +/- PER at the SG.

Try and get Iggy....avoid Monta.

Iggy is certainly a playmaker. I like his game a lot(actual 2 way player), and you'd be able put him next to a 3pt shooter at all times between Johnson, Webster, and Wayne.

How does Iggy work with Rubio?

Ricky plays off the ball more then we give him credit for. (he is always the point, but not balldominate. Comes off screens/spots up/etc) I think they would be fine. iggy's jumper worries me a little bit, but I would love it.

pipedream.

Seems like we have very limited options to pick up a SG IMO. If I had to choose between Ellis and Iggy, I'd take Iggy in a heartbeat.

Rudy Fernandez

I'm still confused why we didn't get him too.

Why does Rudy fit with Wes?

He is crazy overrated. Why is he so special?

They need another player besides the 2 PG on this team, who can create.

Iggy, Mayo, Gordon etc.

Johnson,Iggy or Gay wold be great

but i would love to go with this
C-Milicic or Pekovic
PF-Love
SF-Iggy or Gay (trade AJ for one) / Wesley Johnon
SG-Joe Johnson/Brewer
PG-Flynn / Rubio (when he comes over)

I'm pretty much opposed trading for Fernandez. Rudy's experience in Minnesota could heavily impact Rubio's decision to come over. What are the odds he'd have a negative experience on a team that will be one of the worst in the NBA next year? Rubio has indicated that Minnesota is his first option, so there is no reason to get creative and rock the boat.

i'd prefer monta. we don't want players who are going to be in their 30s when the team is ready to compete for a championship

I'd hope they target young guys like Harden or Mayo, but I don't see who they can realistically get either.

Kind of hoping they don't get anyone so everyone can finally see what Al is like with shooters surrounding him.

I would prefer Iggy. I would obtain him via a Jefferson trade (probably not directly). I would want to surround Iggy with Johnson, Webster, Ellington, and even Flynn (all good shooters).

I am okay with having some mid-twenty veteran talent. Yes, by the time Rubio gets established they will be pushing 30, but:

A. Thats not a death sentence (I could be biased)
B. Iggy will eventually be an expiring contract that can be moved for a shot a someone younger.
C. We have a good 4 years to have someone develop into the roll.

We need to start winning some games and become an exciting team. Iggy brings some national recognition and is a very good two way player. Next years draft, asside from Barnes and Jones, doesnt look to promising at the moment. I am hoping we can get in the 25-30 win range at least this season, still keep our pick (the last year) and grab a few more pieces before Rubio comes.

I've been on the Iggy bandwagon for awhile now. In addition to being a stud defensively, he is one of the most durable guys in the league. Rubio + Iggy + Wes Johnson= chubby in my pants.

I would like to keep Al for a bit if our lineup ends up being flynn+iggy+Johnson or sessions+ellis+Johnson. See what he can actually do with some perimeter defenders or shooters.

Webster is a better player than Fernandez imo...

I would strongly prefer Iggy to all other available options but thing is i'd much prefer to have him on a team that still has Al Jefferson at PF instead of a team that has Kevin Love at PF.

I think exactly the opposite.

I'd love Harden or Mayo, Mayo probably being unrealistic and to get Harden we would probably have to complete the OKC dynasty.

I'd be ok with Iggy.
