If Lebron leaves, the best thing for the Cavs would be to clear the deck and rebuild. With that said, I love Varejao as a defensive presence and very high quality center:
If we could pull of the Harpring trade exception for him great, next option ad a pick to entice them. Possibly they would want us to take on Jamison. I would do AK for Jamison and Varejao as long as it was agreed that they would buy out Ak and let us resign him.
Thoughts.
That gets us a defensive big with a reasonable contract.
For the record, I am more interested in the first scenario, and don't know if I want to do the Jamison deal.

Re: Free Agency Idea
I like that idea. I thought jamison made the cavs worse because he took too many minutes from varejao, and the shaq-jamison combo was awful defensively.
Varejao doesn't put us over the top, but he is an excellent defender. Not really a shot blocker as much as a great on ball post defender, but nonetheless a big upgrade. I would also take gortat, he's more of a shot blocker. I would also take on okafor (although the FO would never risk that much money on him) if we got like marcus thorton or posey or some other good piece from the hornets.

I don't understand why the Cavs would buy out AK when they could just hold onto him for a year and let him expire. Sounds like a steal of a deal for the Jazz so I don't see it happening. Just too good to be true.

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever going to happen.

We wish. He's not going to take the $5-6M which is the most we can offer him.

No way Denver does that.
The plausible free agent that I actually like is Mike Miller, but the Jazz will probably just give Hayward that role and see what he does. I like Haslem too but he's not really all that different from Millsap. If the Jazz do anything in free agency it'll probably just be minor moves to fill out the roster.

I think if we threw in a few more pieces and Denver is unable to work out an extension Boozer for Melo could work. Maybe Boozer+Miles+Memphis pick. But it is also a huge risk on our part to do that because if he won't work on an extension in Denver why would he do one in Utah?

I bet Melo would straight up veto a trade here. I don't think Jazz have the players to get him in a trade anyway. They already have a nice front line, theres no reason for them to really want Boozer.
As for Varajeo, I'd like him, if his contract weren't so long.
