Reunite the Wolves board!

Post#1 » by TrentTuckerForever » Sat Jun 26, 2010 2:36 pm

I thought I'd emphasize Jerry Z's analogy to both the "Kahn apologists" and the haters of the Wolves 2010 draft...

Wolves fans were so waiting for something bright and shiny under the proverbial tree.

They waited and waited and when they unwrapped the presents, there was underwear and socks and maybe a nice pullover sweater.

What?

No, iPhone 4G?

Sorry.

Fact is that the Wolves have NEVER been in position to draft the iPhone. So our GMs (to further mix metaphors) have to pitch a perfect game in order for the Wolves to compete. Look at the small-market GMs we admire. You see that they are both lucky and good - sure Presti is patient and opportunistic, but he was gifted Durant. Buford and Popovich have the most respected international scouting system in the league, but they also lucked into two number one overall picks in years there were franchise centers to build around. Even large market GMs need ping pong ball help... Paxson in Chicago would likely be out of a job if the Bulls hadn't won the right to draft Derrick Rose.

Kahn's draft record is secondary to this elephant in the room, and we can use this fact to bury the hatchet. We can't have the fourteen remaining Timberwolves fans at each other's throats! Direct your venom at the Basketball Gods, not Kahn (or each other.) We need to get back to the days when Lords and Doctors are laying down like lambs and lions. Or something.

I agree. All these guys that are loved for making these great moves all had a superstar thrown in their lap. Do I think Presti has some skillzzzzzzzz, absolutely, but their main pull this year was manuvering draft picks to grab an okay center that will fit their team.

I believe Khan is doing absolutely fine with what he has. At least now we have a clear direction and are focused on making it happen. Remember also that Rambis and Ronzone all were in on the draft as well.

What we need now is to improve and get somewhere between 25 and 30 wins this season. This will put us somewhere in the 6-10 range (we keep are pick if its top 10 still, correct?) and then WIN THE LOTTERY for once for criminey sakes. Harrison Barnes would look great with Rubio and Johnson. I don't have any stats to back it up, but it seems that the lotto winners are always moving up somewhere between pick 5 and 9.

On draft nite, every Wolves fan were expecting an iphone because Kahn had been telling us we were all going to get one. I think because our season turned out to be more dismal than predicted, throughout the year salesman Daddy Kahn felt obligated to exaggerate our assets (the draft picks/Pekovic).

Someone needs to tell Kahn to shut his mouth (like every other GM in the league) regarding our players/assets because the expectations that he sets are usually unreachable.

When did he say "We are getting a star on draft night"?

I think he told us to be surprised. Not that we were getting a droid (better than the iphone).

He also said that the draft night was the first night of a long summer. There is still a chance we got socks because we had to wait for the Droid X to come out. :)

Sorry, this is OT but have you figured out how to reply to posts on your Droid? I can't seem to do it - it doesn't recognize the reply button as something selectable. Only way I can make a post on my Droid is to use the quote function. Other than that, I agree Droid>IPhone.

I'm a BlackBerry guy myself, but I know the whole Droid/iPhone thing is kind of a debate. Coke or Pepsi, IMO..

I like thinking of Wes Johnson as a nice pullover sweater. Not the trendiest gift, but practical and THIS sweater even pulls the rest of the wardrobe together.

Honestly, some of the best gifts are the less flashy ones anyway.

This.

I'm less frustrated than I was 2 days ago. I still feel like Gomes was sold short, but I'm warming to Webby and I know the offseason isn't over yet. Hopefully Kahn doesn't sell Jefferson short and we make a couple impressive, but probably non breath taking moves.
