What a Kahn Wants

While I disagree with Mr. Kahn's ability to estimate the cost of adding specific players, I tend to agree with one trend that he's shown -- reclamation projects. The addition of Martel Webster is another in a line of players that have larger upsides, which we hope to develop by providing more opportunity. You look at Martell, Darko, Pavlovic, Hollins, Sasha, and Sessions, and you see players that have good athleticism, youth, and often those tools led to a high draft pick.

Who else fits this category? Kind of a "bust" list that a bad team might be able to provide opportunity and get something out of?

Kind of sad to be going through the NBA's "scratch and dent" section, but if you can get them for a discount ... (unlike Martell) ....

Any other 1st round busts that are still relatively young? Say 25 or under?

Isn't Nick Young approaching 25? I liked the kid's potential, but I'm not sure he'll ever get there at this point. Beasley should be worth a look though.

The one listed so far thats most realistic IMO is Julian Wright. He fits the SF/PF type of player we are looking for.

McGee is far from as bust. 6pts, 4rbs, 1.7blks in only 16 mpg.
Rush is a good defender and decent offensive player. Not a bust.
Wright is a bust. He can't stay healthy and plays soft when he is.
Clark has only played one year and was drafted for his potential.

Don't think any of them are busts, but i do feel they have underachieved and may be acquire-able. Which is what I thought we were going for here.

Think of how many reclamation projects there are, then think of how many reclamation projects have been recently reclaimed, then think of how many reclamation projects end really badly.

A couple of these guys, particularly if they're not locker-room problem-makers, are all right. You don't want more of them than you already have, though (Webster, Hollins, Darko). What these guys need is personal attention and tailoring. It's something you can't provide if you have too many of them, and it's even worse if you get them competing for on-court minutes.

It's not busts, just young players that aren't being used right on other team. Webster is a perfect example of someone with talent who gets buried on the depth chart because of younger players or the coach.
