Clippers draft grade

Post#1 » by PG3 » Fri Jun 25, 2010 4:07 am

I would give them an A-

- Aminu is the best pick at 8. We filled a need, he's a guy that can contribute right away, and he still hasnt reached his ceiling. Bledsoe also gives us a young backup behind Baron. And Willie Warren is a nice pickup at the 54th spot.

I too would give the Clippers an A- also. They would of gotten a B if they just signed #8 Aminu and #54 Warren, but stealing #18 Bledsoe was Awsome. Might even be a generous A, but there were no real moves in the second round to make an A.

A-, A-, A-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Really good draft, really surprising.

I'd probably give us a B+/A-. I'm still waiting for confirmation of the protection of the pick that we gave up. Eric Pincus assured me that it was not the Minny pick. Steve Perrin asked Neil Olshey was it our pick or the Minnesota pick and Olshey said it's more complicated than that. Right now, I'm under the assumption that it could be the lower of the 2 picks? Meaning that if make the playoffs and the Wolves don't, we get Minny's pick (2012) and OKC gets ours. If we both end up in the lottery, we get the higher/better of the two picks. I'm only speculating, so it could totally be something else.

Back to the draft...I would give us an A- if our pick is well protected and a B+ if OKC ends up with a lottery pick somehow. Going into the draft, there was a lot of uncertainty for this team regarding our GM's capabilities, Coach and of course the impending free agency. We didn't know for a fact who we were going to end up and everything pretty much hinged on Minnesota and Golden State. Aminu and Monroe were both high on the team's draft board, which I'm happy to hear.

Aminu was the player that had best available value at our pick and also fills a need. I like George and have a feeling that he could very well be a star one day. I like Aminu too and feel that he has a lot to offer this team in its future. The Bledsoe trade got me really excited. I had expectations of us getting one of the wings and a borderline D-Leaguer at the 54th pick. When we acquired Bledsoe, I knew that we had two nice pieces coming in at the very least. Warren at 54 is a steal and far better than anyone that I was hoping would still be on the board that late. He's kind of like DJ in the fact that he was once considered a lottery prospect (beginning of the season) only to see his stock plummet on draft day. He has some red flags (i.e. rejected workouts, attitude/behavior, etc.), but he played his best ball with Blake Griffin who just so happens to be on the team. If there's anyone that can keep him in line, it is Blake.

Overall, I feel that we drafted great value at each pick. We have added much needed depth. Looking at free-agency, we only had 5 guys signed and were talking about adding a max. Now we're basically two deep at every position except SF. I'm much more at peace heading into free agency and I'm very satisfied with the work that Olshey has done so far.

Only pick i really liked was Bledsoe. I just feel like Aminu is going to be like Joe alexander (well maybe not THAT bad, but along the same mold of being an athletic project, something i think Paul George is going to be as well)

B+/A-

Overall we filled our need @ PG & SF. I just hope Bledsoe gets mad PT and Aminu doesn't turn into Thornton 2.0

I would give a B+. I have been one of the biggest critics of Aminu, but I hope that he proves me wrong. I absolutely love the picks of Bledsoe and Warren, but I would have wanted to trade down and try to pick up George or someone like that.
