Hey guys, I'm a celtics fan, and I'm trying to do some homework on the guy we just draft every bradley. I want him to be able to play the 2, but he seems to be just a little too short. But then I saw his size compared to eric gordons.
They are the same height, EG has about an inch on wingspan and vertical, and about 40 pounds on AB.
For some reason I always thought he was taller, at least adequate to play the two. It encouraged me about AB's potential there. But I wanted to ask the people who know him.
So at 6'2" barefoot, is Eric Gordon, and AB I guess, big enough to play the 2? You've watched him play, how has his size effected his performance there?

Re: Eric Gordon's Size at SG
EJ's long arms (6'9 wingspan) help make up the difference for what he is lacking vertically. On offense he can knock down 3's, he has a good first step and the strength to attack the basket and absorb contact. On defense, he is our best perimeter defender. He usually gets the tougher assignment whether it be the 1 or 2 guard.
Last year there was a stretch in which we won 5 of 6 games, and he had the privilege of guarding Wade, Kobe & Roy in three straight games (wins). Roy went 3 for 12 to finish with 6 points. Kobe went 10 for 30 to finish with 33. Wade did a little better at 11 for 23 with 24 points, but it was still a sub-par game for him. Bigger/longer guards (e.g. Joe Johnson) can be more problematic for him and give him trouble on both ends of the floor. All-in-all, it just depends on the match-up and the player's strengths & weaknesses.

Re: Eric Gordon's Size at SG
Bradley has like 6'7" or 6'8" wingspan himself which in part made him arguably the best defensive player in college basketball last season.
I think what really makes a difference is Gordon's pure scoring ability. Bradley isn't close in terms of his shooting and doesn't finish at the rim as well either, imo. Bradley is very quick, but his ups is slightly overstated from what I saw at Texas. I mean the guy will dunk on someone backpedaling, however, he is no Westbrook or Wade in that aspect.

Gordon's long arms help him in his perimeter D, he's great at blocking jump shots. He also loves doing the statue of liberty dunk because of those arms. Also his strength helps him as he converts a lot of And 1's.
I think if Bradley can get stronger and learn to finish at the rim, he could be lethal.

Gordon, Bradley, Jeff Teague, Ben Gordon, Gilbert Areanas, and Derrick Rose have a standing reach of 8'3.
generally, you would want your SG to have atleast a 8'5 standing reach like Wade, Roy, Wall, Rudy Fernandez, Michael Redd, Ray Allen

Re: Eric Gordon's Size at SG
His strength also largely helps counteract his size at the SG position. Anybody less than say 6'5" is going to try to draw contact against defenders in order to try to creat shots in the paint, and EJ is definitely strong enough to do it.
