Dirk?

If Dirk decides he doesn't want to go resign in Dallas (as is now rumored), is there a package that would land him here?

I figure any package would start with Josh Smith and then have other pieces to match contract. I figure it would take a 4 year deal around 80M to get it done.

Would it be a wise move and what would you give up?

My obvious package was Josh and Marvin, but if Dallas wanted an expiring deal in the mix it would be Josh and Jamal. The team might decide to go bold and resign Joe at that point.

I'm not sure if that's enough in the post 2010 free agency East, but it would be interesting.

There is no reason why Dirk would come to Atlanta over Cuban and what he has done for him over the years.
But, should Dallas not be able to retain him, watch out for Boston. It's a reach, but not as big a reach as coming here to dysfunction 101.

Nowitski in Boston creates so many mismatches for everyone.

My eye opener prediction for this offseason if Nowitski has the werewithal to walk away from Cuban.

I would not be surprised to see Pierce settle for less to get Nowitski in there. How much less is the question. Pierce opts out, the Wallace retirement could help.
They look like they are around 35M after signing Avery Bradley. Pierce renounces and Wallace numbers come off the books.

But if I truly was in the league and my goal was to win a title, the odds are incredibly in Boston or LA's favor.

Its not out of reach for this to happen and if I were Ainge, I would see if Paul is willing to help out. He truly wants 2 titles next to his name.

I agree, but IMO if someone is considering Dirk leaving, why wouldn't he go to Boston and a vet like Pierce accepting less?

Help me here, if Dirk ends up in Boston, and the Wallace $$ is off the books, can't Pierce come close to a max contract?

Pierce opts out, they then are at the above numbers....minimum, they are at 43M...that gives them roughly 24M to tinker with.....Wallace numbers go away.....that gives them roughly 30M.

That counters anything Miami or Chicago could put together.

First of all, Josh and Jamal add up to over 20M in salary for the sign and trade. I posted this suggestion because of a RealGM headline about Dirk not resigning in Dallas. Seemed far-fetched to me, but if someone can write an article about it then why not post a trade idea about it. There logic is that Dirk wants a 4 year commitment at this point and maybe Cuban doesn't want to lock up that long term.

Boston doesn't have enough space without renouncing almost everyone and they don't have the pieces to put together an offer for Dirk.

No one answered my questions. How would that team do? and would they sell more tickets? The reason I raised those specific questions rather than asking if Dirk or Cuban would do it is that in the theorized post free agency East I'm not sure that Dirk/Joe/Al is enough firepower to move up, but maybe I'm being too rough on it. The second part about tickets is that you can't commit to that much salary moving forward unless you think it sells out the arena and gets us on TV more. Does the new lineup do those things?

Dirk's not going anywhere guys, I've done a ton of research on Dirk's situation. He's planning on opting out of his contract so he can get a max deal with more years. There's almost no chance he goes anywhere, but it would have a huge impact on free agency.

yah, Dirk opted out so he can get more years with max money AND a no trade clause. That's the big thing. he does'nt want to pick up the option and then get traded for Lebron or something. Also, its best to sign a new contract now before there is a new CBA that could limit the amount of years, money, etc with contracts. The Mavs would have loved that he picked up the option so they wouldn't have that 1% chance that he COULD leave but in reality they always assumed he would opt out. They also plan to use this opportunity to backload is new contract to help with current payments for *hopefully* Lebron's $125 million.
