Utah Jazz Summer League!

Post#1 » by carrottop12 » Tue Jun 29, 2010 6:29 am

Summer league starts on the 5th of July in Orlando. So far these are this is the most complete roster I can find.

Rod Benson - C: 6'10 210 Reno Bighorns D-League
Tadija Dragicevic - PF: 6'9 265 Serbia (Former second round draft pick)
Jeremy Evans - PF: 6'9 210 Western Kentucky (Second round draft pick)
Gordon Hayward - SF: 6'8 210 Baylor (#9 pick in the first round)
Demetris Nichols - SF: 6'8 215 Syracuse (Former second round draft pick of the Blazers)
Tyrese Rice - PG: 6'0 190 Boston College
Dominic Waters - PG: 6'1 180 Portland State
Paul Harris - SG: 6'4 220 Syracuse (Previously invited to camp but was injured.)
James Augustine - PF/C 6'10 235 Illionois (Played with the Jazz last summer)
Jermareo Davidson - PF/C 6'10 230 Alabama (Played a couple of NBA seasons)
Thomas Gardner - SF: 6'5 225 Missouri (Played 20 career NBA games)
Bernard Robinson - SF: 6'6 210 Michigan (128 career NBA games)
Othyus Jeffers - SG: 6'5 200 Robert Morris College (Played with Jazz last season)
Sundiata Gaines - PG: 6'1 185 Georgia (Played with Jazz last season)
Kosta Koufos - C: 7'0 265 Ohio State (2008 Jazz First Rounder)

Depth Chart:

PG: Sundiata Gaines/Tyrese Rice/Dominic Waters
SG: Othyus Jeffers/Paul Harris/Demetris Nichols
SF: Gordon Hayward/Bernard Robinson/Thomas Gardner
PF: Tadija Dragicevic/Jeremy Evans/Jermareo Davidson
C: Kosta Koufos/Rod Benson/James Augustine

I think Tyrese Rice will probably play pretty well as I think he has the skills and experience to to look good in a summer league, and I project he'll get a camp invite. Both he and Waters are good scorers from the PG position. Rod Benson is best known for his blog "Too much Rod Benson" but so far he's the only confirmed guy with the size to maybe make the roster. Nichols bounced around the league a little bit, but playing SF and trying to make it on this team might be tough with our current road block.

I am most interested obviously to see the three Jazz picks even if Dragicevic isn't going to come over this year. I had heard he wasn't ever going to come over but this is a good sign. It would be nice to see him have a good showing. I think Hayward should be solid, and I have no clue about Evans. Most draft experts were surprised he was drafted at all but he's a highlight athlete and has good height and length.

I also expect the Jazz to ask Kosta, Jeffers, and Gaines to go to camp, and wouldn't be surprised to see some of the familiar faces like Lyde back in uniform, maybe bring in Luke Nevill for some local flavor.

Easily the best roster the Jazz have ever had.

NBATV is going to show all of them also I believe.

Interesting to see the Jazz going after shooters. Nichols was a good shooter coming out of Syracuse, as is Waters. Could be a sign the Jazz are going to let Korver walk.

Kosta said he will play and Gaines and Jeffers have to, otherwise their options wont be picked up.

I always liked Nichols, but he's had plenty of chances and never stuck. Let's hope we can coax a little more out of him!

I think if Lyde would just sack up and devote himself to getting in world class shape for a year the Jazz would have given him a NBA contract by now. Just things he can control, food, exersize, dedication, effort. I guess injuries he can't control. But, I think the only thing keeping the Jazz from signing him is that package of hotdogs he calls the back of his neck.

I'm pulling for him to show up in Ben Wallace shape this year. Not for the Jazz sake, but, just to see him achieve his goals.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Rice might be interesting, but I don't see the Jazz signing him unless he is significantly better than Gaines.

Gotta be the best summer league team I have seen them put together for some time but I am very worried that we only managed to get 1 legit C to come and play for us. What happened to trying to get some size in the middle? I would have liked to see them try and get the PG from Duke to play for us...Schyer or whatever...or the Duke C, Zoubek errr whatever his name is but neither of them are coming. Sad face.

Yeah, but keep in mind we will in all likelihood be over the tax again this season. Would Utah rather pay 1.5 mil to Gaines or 900k to a guy like Rice. Similarly I see a guy like Nicholos taking Jeffers spot because of his size.

The second year contract for Gaines and Jeffers is about $782K.

Right, but double it if we are in the tax.

That's minimal money and they will keep the best player. 1M isn't going to detour them unless their is no difference in the play.

Updated and likely final roster updated. Very good roster. Will have to find a stream to watch this.

If Korver is let go then Nichols could make club as a 3 point specialist.

Harris was my favorite player last year invited to camp, and I am ready to see him this year. If you don't know much about him take a look at this http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Paul-Harris-487/

Rice was considered border line 1st round talent if he stayed in school until next year (obviously too early to tell) so I want to see him as well. The Jazz picks are interesting of course, and to see the development of Kosta. Hopefully one of these players proves that they are NBA caliber players. I expect if anyone surprises us it will be Rice, Harris, or Dragicevic.
