yes, during the jason kidd era- when they went to the finals and still couldn't sell out games.
Some people talk trash about ticket sales, and other talk trash about wins. Remind me...what was the Nets record against the Knicks in games Kidd played for the Nets? I think it was 35-3 including a playoff sweep?
But yeah, as a fan I feel ashamed about those ticket sales...you got us there.
You want to talk about wins? How many did the Nets have last year with that all impressive core? You think your trash talking but your talk is all trash.......there's a difference....
And sadly we beat YOUR team 2 out of 3.....aint that a kick in the ass after all those beatings you took in the Kidd era?
And btw...it doesnt feel a bit foolish for YOU to talk trash about our record last year in a deliberate step back season? You only won 17 more games and you were TRYING to win! And since then your recruiting plan is dump Nate, Harrington, and renounce the rights to David Lee...while having your lottery pick go to Utah in a previous trade made years ago in one of your other 9 straight losing seasons. The guy you got for it is playing in China now. You would think that would serve as a lesson as far as dealing picks for the future...but considering you gave away what most likely will amount to three lottery picks for the right to make Jeffries go away a year early just so you could get into the conversation for Lebron.
Well? Congrats! Since you seem to feel ticket sales are something to be proud of I hear all the false hope you sold did wonders for ticket sales...that's fantastic.
And btw...just how many of those wins do you think the guys you dumped were responsible for?

Kerry Kittles always hit every 3 point he attempted, Kendal Gill was like Michael Jordan and even Keith Van Horn was unstoppable. I think thats the last time the Nets were relevant to me.
And Bill Cosby was the most popular guy on TV the last time the Knicks were relevant to anyone else. GO THEO!
Knicks were sure banging on the Sega Genesis core system. Man Johnny Newman was sweet.

Far superior in ticket sales? How bout in location? You have zero titles in the last decade...that's superior? Losers still....and losers you will always be....

OooSplendiforous wrote:enetric wrote:OooSplendiforous wrote:Aside from Dr. J... the Nets have no history or relevance in the NBA. Jason Kidd made the biggest impact on your team and that was it. Nets have ZERO TITLES, and were a perrenial doormat of the league living in the shadow of the Knicks throughout their existence and especially the 90's. 14 Straight Playoff appearances from 87-88 season to 2002; Willis Red, Clyde Frazier, Earl Monroe, Bernard King, Patrick Ewing
Nets have as much success in the last 37 years as the Knicks do. 2 finals appearences.
But I have to ask...that pride Knicks fans have in the once upon a time....when does it end? At what point did a Cubs fan say to himself...damn I guess we cant talk about Ernie Banks anymore?
Should a 25 year old LEbron care about you so called history? The Nets team he knows has been run better, and been far more succesful in his time. Both on the court, and in a rebuilding effort.
Dolan has turned that franchise into a laughing stock....and had the highest payroll spent while doing it. For all the greatness the Knicks had once upon a time....it has been seriously paved over through the life time of the very players you are trying to convince to come play for you.
I dont begrudge you the pride you feel....but head to head? Our franchise over the last decade has been far superior in every measurable aspect.
We also made the finals in 1994 and 1999, so 4 finals appearances...and I also believe one more time in the 70's where we lost to the Lakers so possibly 5 appearances.
Dolans checkbook makes him an ideal owner if there is a good GM under him. He's not a bad guy...he just knows nothing about basketball. Also not sure if it was his idea to make bandaid moves the past decade or Laydne/Isiah but if it was then yeah thats a terrible attribute. We'll see if Donnie hires a good replacement and how it goes from there before we can judge Dolan wholeheartedly.
But yes the past 8 years were terrible for the Knicks. But you also have to look at this... the Nets were relevant from 2001 to about 2006...but thats it. Rod Thorn did an excellent job, but 5 or 6 good years out of the franchises history? Come on... And yes you do have a better core than us, but the fact that youll be in Newark for 2 to 3 more years will scare some free agents away and you cant deny that.
Those were the two finals appearences I was referring to. 1994 and 1999. The only two you have had in the last 37 years. We have two in that same time period...expect you know...more recently and in a time Lebron might recall them.
A 6 year window, a 3 year step back and ready to go with a reset table. Compared to a 14 year window where your fans never really appreciated Ewing and still dont to this day. Followed by 11 years of the most payroll spent on bad contracts and not ONE single playoff win. 11 years of denial. And you go recruiting with two guys who play the same position, a back up PG, and a center making 11 mil who you have told to stay home the last 3 years. No pick this year, you gave away your lottery pick last year, will swap next year and give away your pick after that.
Three different GM's and of course Dolan foolishly not settling the public harrasment law suit for all to see. At what point do you say...well...maybe that stuff will hurt us more in recruiting than those other guys with the much better talent, a better track record under the people who have been running that show....and two years playing in Newark?
BTW...if you havent seen that arena...you should go. I think you will be shocked. Its a lot nicer than the Meadowlands or the dump that this version of MSG has become. Also...take a look at the plans for Brooklyn. Simply awesome.
Now I cant possibly know if Newark will hurt us more...or if complete mismanagement will hurt you more. But say we both get shut out. Which roster and draft picks would you prefer to have going foward?

A few more years? What? 37 isnt enough????? Seriously? MEcca of what????
Next a Cubs fan will be telling me their franchise is legendary.
Lebron is 25. In his era...which of our teams has been run well..which has been considered a joke? Seriously...love your team all you want. Is there ANYTHING you are proud of in the last decade?
Record in ANY single season? Playoffs? The star players you spent on with the largest payroll of any team in the league over that time period?
So your pride is in TICKET SALES and the current location of your building? The FOURTH different MSG there has been? This dump of building over the train station that smells like Elephant crap? THIS is what you are so proud of? Wait. You should email Dolan. I think you just figured out what the pitch should be to land you Lebron. Forget talent, winning, smart spending. Who needs any of that...right?

You went twice and we went twice in that time period. You think those titles 12 years before Lebron was born will impress him? Sure about as much as our ABA titles will. Big whoop.

Out of curiosity..were you even alive for that? Since Lebron wasnt...maybe you can explain to him what happened to your team in the years to follow....and walk him through those golden years.
While you are at it...perhaps you can recount the War, bell bottoms and your VW bus.

When Lebron walks into the Garden he sees NBA banners hanging up there.... He's heard the deafening roar of the crowd when he's played there. When he goes to NJ he hears crickets chirp and the two guys in the 18th row fighting over who has to stop drinking early so they don't have to be the designated driver.
At least the Knicks have golden years...

If you sign even one big name you guys are making the playoffs next year meaning that the Knicks and the Nets will have similarly slotted 1st rounders next year. Also if all else fails the picks in 2011 and 2012 have protection on them.. So you really have no draft advantage in 2011 over us.A guy like LeBron James is too big for the city of Newark. Do you see howoften that city is on the news, one of the highest crime rates and MOST MURDERS in the United States. How is that not a deterrant? Also I'd personally take Danilo Gallinari over Brook Lopez and I am not that big of a Gallo fan. T-Will is a nice player but he's not better than Chandler. Favors we'll see. It's not as if your core is THAT much better than ours. If Toney Douglas pans out into the player some think he can be, then the margin is even smaller.

Again...so do the Cubs. At some point golden isnt a sign of greatness if you taint it with so many disgraceful seasons and nothing to show for it. In your case golden just appears yellow....as in the moldly looking color those banners have turned considering how long ago they were hung.
