Braves considering JoBau

Post#1 » by Hoopstarr » Wed Jun 30, 2010 4:25 pm

The Braves are considering Josh Willingham, Corey Hart and Jose Bautista as they look to upgrade their offense with a right-handed bat, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. No deal appears imminent, but the Braves, who just lost Jason Heyward to the DL, are clearly setting their sights high.

Currently, Bautista isn't even a Type B (because those idiots at Elias go by batting avg) so a July trade might be the best shot at getting good value for him.

Don't really know much about the Braves roster other then Heyward and Chipper. Anybody worth getting back...or if anything just to relieve his contract?

I think you only trade Bautista if you're convinced you can acquire a viable 3B for next year in some other way.

Really depends on what they're offering. I'd imagine that they aren't putting up Teheran or any such, and if it's just a borderline prospect on the table, you might as well hang on to him. If they panic and pay for his year, not for his career, take it and run, and sort the 3B situation out later.

Right now, the Jays won't get a top 5 prospect for Bautista off the Braves. Just for the reason that he's a FA at the end of the year and to make matters worse, he's not even considered a type B free agent, which sucks for Toronto.

Players like Craig Kimbrel or Randall Delgado might come to mind as possible prospects, both are pitchers and project as closer and a #3-5 starter respectively.

Kimbrel (you have to check these stats out..)

I believe that we have Bautista's rights for another year, as would the team acquiring him; he only has a little over four years' ML service, which means that he has one more arb year remaining. We're still unlikely to get a top 5 prospect, definitely, but considering he was filler entering the year (and some idiots, namely that Schad guy, thought we should have non-tendered him) any return is a step up.
